If I may paraphrase Tywin Lannister without sparking too much controversy: "Anyone who needs to tell everyone he's king is not." If they writers need to weave the word "woman" into every single piece of dialogue, they've clearly failed to communicate her empowerment and the fact that we as viewers should care in every other way; otherwise they wouldn't have to continuously spell it out. And come on: "The suit will be perfect... When it fits a woman!" Did they just grab that off of Tumblr or something? Who seriously wrote that and thought it worked as line? What kind of reaction were they expecting?

Strong female characters to writers these days literally translates to “Stubborn, perplexingly rude disguised as wit, inherently sexist to men and condescending towards fellow women with the whole ‘I’m not like other girls’ shtick, and being physically strong instead of morally, mentally and emotionally strong”. Why chase being a superhero if she has “a strong desire for social justice”. Social justice is not important when you have rampant villains, crime and crisis. The emphasis on her being a woman is obvious bait, it’s a weak attempt at being controversial and watered down “diversity” bait. I’m pretty sure Batwoman in the comics is lesbian, which is no problem, but the passes at men and how “piggish” they are for seeming hostile or doubtful of her is just inflammatory. Also Ruby Rose, (the actress) is just a poor actress in general. She has no range outside of “I’m a handsome butch lesbian who wants to seem like a badass but comes off as desperately try harding”. I’ve seen her in other shows and movies. She has no ability to act any emotional depth, character or believability outside of that role, which pretty much is who she is as a person outside of acting. It’s a pathetic attempt overall by CW for a show that will probably (and I hope) end by season 3. I’m not even a superhero, comic or Batman fan. I suppose all that is cool stuff, but bad television is bad television, and I love to laugh and watch it burn. Except when it was GoT. That one hurt.
