The paintings of Stefan Baumann reveal the true spirit of nature by transporting the viewer to distant lands that have gone unseen and undisturbed. With the huge success of Baumann’s weekly PBS television series “The Grand View: America’s National Parks through the Eyes of an Artist,” millions of people witness for themselves the magic Stefan portrays on canvas, his passion for nature and the American landscape. By distilling his love of nature into a luminous painting of brilliant, saturated color that transcends conventional landscape and wildlife art, Baumann has captured the hearts and imaginations of a generation. Each painting becomes an experience rather than merely a picture - a vivid manifestation of his special and personal union with nature and the outdoor world. Through his mastery of light, color and artful composition, Baumann invites you to experience nature in its purity. It is no wonder that for many years distinguished American collectors, including former presidents and financial icons, have sought out his work.

Good video, the host is a good instructor, he has the uncommon ability to decern what we need to hear. He brought out many important points, like clouds are not really white. It is not that easy to paint what is really there. One day, to demonstrate the point, my art teacher asked our class to look out the window. He asked if we all saw the red brick building on the corner. We all acknowledged that we did. He asked if there was anyone who did not see the red brick building on the corner. Again, everyone answered, "Yes, we saw it." He then said, "No you don't, you do not see the red brick building on the corner, because there is no red brick building on that corner." Upon hearing that, the entire class, in one movement, turned to verify that the red brick building was on the corner. We all turned back to look at the teacher thinking one of us is wrong here and it ain't us. Then he said, " You don't see a red brick building on the corner, because those bricks are not red, they are brown and what you see is a brown brick building on the corner. And if you painted those bricks red, you would never be satisfied with the way that your painting represented reality. Learn to paint what you really see." Once again, we all turned to look out the window at the building on the corner and yes, those bricks were as brown as they could be. I never looked at things the same way again.

Hello , I've been watching many of your vids lately and have learned or relearned a lot. I love your tough love style; you are not afraid to tell folks when their work sucks! Those poor little girls!! :D Here's some funny stuff I've heard in workshops with various instructors: "Use lots of paint; they'll make more! Oil painters have two kinds of clothes, those that already have paint on them and those that will have paint on them. Don't die with bad paintings in your studio (I think I heard you say that too). Anyway good stuff. I live north of Tucson, and have great views of Pusch Ridge of the Catalina mountains; I know what you mean living close to a lovely mountain to look at daily, it's constantly changing so you can paint it every day and get a different look on your panel; like Monet and his water lily pond ( I saw it once on a trip to France (2002), and did some really terrible paintings of it from photos!! LOL. If you ever come to see me, I'll take you to all my secret local Sonoran Desert spots (some where old Maynard Dixon painted), sort of like your Castle Crags secrets. You'd need nothing but your suitcase, I have everything here art-wise, or we can get it ten miles away. And I'll feed you very well; I'm a "gromet" cook!! LOL. Later Stefan. Ron

Love your video’s!! (really love them.) You are telling abouth the turpentine, sometimes, at your video, and in this video, paint with your thumb (I do the same also, tell that at my students 😊) I can hear your enthousiasm I love that, I also think maybe you hold on your breadth for a period and after that I hear you getting the oxygen you need to talk further. Hope you take care because off the turp in the air (atmosphere 😊) Thanks so much. (I am not as good as you), still learning, also while I teach for over 35 years. Also learning because I teach. Your video production has really improved! Your new intro is MUCH better. Your camera doesn't know what you want to see lighting wise so now on your camera quit using "automatic" settings for your light ...shut your iris just enough to see the canvas without bleaching out. The automatic setting is trying to bring in enough light to SEE the black backdrop that we don't need to see. If you do this also your forehead will not bleach out either. You will look more handsome. There is a "zebra stripes" setting that brings attention to what is bleaching out in your video so turn it on so you can see it in your monitor. We used to say autofocus is really outtafocus but cameras focus have improved a lot. Free Ric'hard Effect advice 😉 Keep up the good work ... I'll be watching.

@@StefanBaumann If I could I really honestly would for free because of what you contribute to the art community, but I'm in Houston. I had a video production till I was parallelized from the waist down ... I lost everything while recovering enough to start delivering pizzas to survive. I would be a paying student but you don't work for tips. Sorry, but this is an amateur video mistake with a simple solution more simple than "clouds aren't white" These KZbin videos get you Patrions, students and even customers. Your Videos will live on long after you have passed. Are you happy with bleached out canvas? "WTF" You are better than that. I would never give you advice on painting but i have a lot of experience with videography. I apologise for trying to help you look better. Now work on your pride.

No worries, but I spend so much time producing just content that if I can just set up my camera and shoot it does not get done. I'm a one-man band. the information is what I put out there and it is my expertise that people want. I produced 24 PBS television show on painting in the national parks and I have a crew shooting it, you can see them on my sight. the production coast so much and did less for me then the little low production I do here . the programd is call The Grand View Americas National Parks through the eyes of an artist.

Love your videos Stephan 👍 But by way of constructive feedback the video quality looks like it was filmed with a potato. The canvas is way over exposed so it's hard to see the subtleties, and the digital zoom into the canvas makes it very pixelated. It's like watching a 3rd generation VHS copy from a badly tuned TV channel. You really deserve a better camera and video setup than you currently have.
@ronschlorff7089
@ronschlorff7089 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but some of his older vids of the Parks series are very well produced and have those subtleties you are mentioning. I recently saw the one for the Grand Canyon, being an Arizonan, and learned some good stuff from it. Man, he sure was a young guy then; I guess we all were!! :D

75 years old, learning how to use this technology...My inspiration started when very young, skipping school I met Owen Grommie, Wisconsin artists. He caught me sketching in the Museum. Realism was fading out, and artist, were always Men. IN my 20's I met Robert Bateman, who caught me sketching. I had no idea who he was. I have always been too poor. Even now I use no refrigerator or stove, to costly to use, turn heat to lowest level. mainly so pipes do not freeze. Now I am in my last chapter, last chance, so I have been attempting to paint 344 birds that are seen in Wis. Realism is my style. My style is not Cute, or exaggerated lighting, but what I know. Much of my art supplies, and past art had been stolen, and it took me this long to recoup enough to paint, but yes on Cheep flat boards, and acrylic. I use to paint in Egg tempera. But can not afford eggs, and no refrig. to keep cold. Thankyou for your recent Blog on Lighting in our studio. I thought I needed that too in my tiny basically 7x7 bedroom. Most friends have passed, no real family, and really can not afford any of your coaching, to know if my work is ok. Sorry. but at least I can maybe catch some hints about what to do if really POOR and stuck using the lowest of the low art supplies. I did not know about the canvas board. Did layer 7, sand in between each, but today canvas boards are even more flimsy. than 30-40 years ago...

Just FYI, your ring finger has the softest skin than other fingers… perfect for softer blending. I learned that in cosmetology school… LMAO😂 I can tell the difference anyway. If you use ring finger to barely skim the canvas.. for when you don’t want to completely blend but still leaves softer transition.

Every good artist uses their fingers; also don't throw out those old used face cloths, they work just as well as your fingers, either adding paint or wiping off, or blurring or blending, or all sorts of other effects.
