Ive been doing maintenance work on an R1100S I just bought from my local BMW dealer “as is” because it had a dead clutch lever. Replaced the clutch slave and it works great. Thanks to your videos, of course! Just replaced my fuel filter and found two fuel hose clamps inside the tank were never “re-clamped” and 3 of the bolts were loose that hold the fuel pump assembly plate to the tank. Funny, I know where this bike was worked on and Ive taken bikes (under warranty) there. Makes you think twice about taking stuff to a dealer. Not every BMW dealer has a mechanic like yourself, Chris. Your videos are invaluable.

Its not the honest bit I worry about its the ass holes that just dont know what they are doing and then charge the earth This sadly includes main dealers you know the ones that charge three time more and still do a shit job I have had it time and time again I now insist on meeting the person that will work on my bike and i almost interview them you only need to ask a few questions and the bullshit will either start to flow or it will not Just make out you have not got a clue it always works !!

Great video Chris. Always recommend your videos. I don't do it, but the hole in the front cover is often recommended by some to avoid having to remove the front cover during a valve adjustment. Hole allows access to the nut on the pully to turn the motor to TDC. I use the markings on the cam chain sprockets, and just use the rear tire to turn the motor.

Can i ask how should i do, witch sign shel i set the crankshaft to calibrate the tappets before i take of everything?? Thank you very much for your help.

Chris Can a stick coil send enough voltage to operate neon tester and not fire the plug ? I don’t have a spare plug to put in the cylinder and do the test as you recommended. Disconnected each stick from harness one at a time and on the right side there is no tone or idle difference However it showed neon when bike ran neon seemed to be a bit weaker on this side. When I disconnected left side there was definitely a tone and idle difference. Was going to swap left to right to see if tone changes on right side to verify signal to stick. Thoughts …. Thanks again …

@6941rocket3 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, great videos, they are very helpful. I watched your video and changed a transmission on a 96 R1100rs. I’m not sure if I did something wrong but once I put in 1st gear, and release the clutch, it rolls forward for a second but then I hear a click and it’s like the transmission locked up which shuts off the bike. The weird thing is, while on the center stand, I put it in gear (before trying to drive off) and as I release the clutch, the wheels spins freely no problem. Any idea as to what may be the cause ? Thanks.

Chris Can I check stick coils with an in line neon tester ?
@ChrisR.Harris2 жыл бұрын
Sure but you can verify spark simply by removing the plug, inserting it into the plug lead and placing the plug on the cylinder. Crank the starter and look for spark or lack of. Good Luck, Chris
