Hi Chris, Greetings from California. Well it’s time to replace the Battery on my R1150R. After a few years my memory fades. So Today I rewatched your excellent video describing the procedure and as always I found it instructive and just a funny F-bombs and all. (So many little fasteners to remove…for a battery!) So now you are getting me back on the road-again. I hope all is well with you and your family. All my best.

Excellent Chris 👍🏻 just found your videos. I’ve just started a restoration on a 1984 K100RT. Been sitting idle 5 yrs prior to my purchasing her. Engine purrs like a kitten but everything else rough. I’ll be using your videos to help me. Really appreciate finding you. I’ve subscribed to your channel 🙏☮️❤️ kindest regards, Allan From New Zealand 🇳🇿

iIs ridiculous how easy that came out for you, i'm seriously pissed off after 3 hours of trying to get the threaded cylinder out, the spring is too high and wont allow removal. also the large O ring on the TB is too large .....probably with age.

Can you tell me if the engine oil needs draining before removing. I've heard from others that the drive spigot sits in engine oil when it's attached to the bike. My BMW manual doesn't mention it for the R1200RT but I want to be sure! Thanks

You're making me happy with my purchase of the same motorhome but a few year's older 😮. I paid $6500 Total and at 35000 miles all those little quirky thinks have been addressed lol. Although I sure someone got burned on the purchase of mine at some point? It was not me. And I'm now moving the front TV to the ceiling and on a flip up mount. Also 3d printed new mounts for switching all controls radio, climate, backup monitor to my preferred locations. I've also printed different little pieces to eliminate some of the road noise and rattling. Soon to be available for purchase. You've brought up all the reasons to not by new motorhomes.

Hey Chris. Not a mechanic here. But I have to wonder, based on your discussion about the 7Nm versus 10-12 Nm. if 7Nm seems appropriate (when you do not have the cutout on the socket) to tight it up? Said differently, without that tool, chances are that the internal pin will go above 7Nm when you torque the nut and so would likely end up at more than 7Nm (and hopefully not more) and perhaps below 12Nm. Just a thought. Geez, I just realize this video is 11 years old. Chances you would never read this (hopefully other savvy users do and provide rationale for-against this?

Hi Chris!! I just seen couple of your videos and i sed give a try to fix the bike by myself and i realise here in Germany on the crankshaft are two diferent simbols witch makes me confuse in calibrating the tappets and i have a Z letter with a horizontal line on top and SOT instead of TDC mark like i see on U.S. model. Can i ask how should i do, witch sign shel i set the crankshaft to calibrate the tappets before i take of everything?? Thank you very much for your help.

Dry diaphragm clutch in a motorcycle which shift hard more often than a car, van, truck, a cheaper solution for sure , but rarely does it give the durability of a wet clutch....even worse when you go cheap and don't use a pilot bearing to support the 1st motion shaft. I'm old and can remember R5 and R6 dropping splines on pressure plate and shaft and back then there was a recommended spline lube every year or 12k miles. It's a perennial issue. The 6 speeds never had a recommended spline lube, like a car. Strange diagnostic from this gentleman, but that's sometimes the way with a mechanic, not an R&D guy, when one considers it's a rwin cylinder and that itself causing 'chuggle' power on and off.

Just picked up a 2006 in immaculate condition, just a dead battery. I’ve never taken the tank off a bike but this video made the operation easy. Thankfully my bike already has the SS disconnects. New battery in, buttoned up and ready to roll! Thanks for the vid Chris, much appreciated 🍻

Interesting to know that the early R1100S has the same head as the R1200C. I just replaced the head gasket on my R1200C but since I don't have a piston ring compressor. I just removed the cam bolt with the piston all the way down while supporting the S/OT top timing tab with a bent screwdriver through the timing hole. Everything else was done according to the Clymer manual procedure. Even zip tied the chain to the sprocket and reinstalled with the horizontal timing marks. Now it's not firing up although I got spark and fuel. But I'll try it with some starting fluid. Valves were closed when head was out and even though I did it with Bottom Top Dead Center instead of Top, what do you think, will it fire up as is? Or get that ring compressor and do it again?

Last year i bought a very clean first year R1100RS with very noisy gbox with 20k mls So with help from your excellent videos,I pulled the box, replaced every bearing, clutch was like new,so just re lubed the clutch spline, which was had a tiny bit of lube, and fired it up,bingo I thought no more noise! About a week later the noise was back,I thought wtf and said enough of this crap and sold it on cheap,a year on bike is going fine!
