Don't go off trail even to take a leak, and don't take shortcuts., I walk off trail and take shortcuts but not without a GPS . It's hard to imagine how everything looks the same after a few steps off of the trail and how easy it is to get turned around and lose your trail . I've gotten lost, and it is some scary s**

Hey Brian, I'm not a hiker, outdoor enthusiast, or anywhere near athletic😂 but I love listening to your stories. I just want to comment on your incredibly compassionate and caring nature by putting these stories out there regardless of how much time has passed. You dedicate the show to the missing, and their families really touch the heart. I know you have been having your own health issues this past year, and I hope you recover soon. Thank you for all your hard work and the interesting stories you narrate.

Hey Bryan: Hope you make it to Washington. I just wanted to point out that Sergey and Susan Baumann (a previous video of yours) went missing in the same general area - off the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River Road (just on opposite sides of the road, at two different trail heads). For Susan I would consider looking for her near her campsite or the river nearby (the Snoqualmie River has multiple forks, but the water is cold and the current is deceptively swift). Another consideration is the nearby (from her campsite) abandoned and closed Gold Mine. I wonder if someone is mining near the abandoned mine in a clandestine manner? I think Sergey was suffering from a concussion. I would guess he was trying to make his way back to the parking area and tried crossing the Snoqualmie River using one of the many trees that fall and span the river or span most of the river. It is so easy to slip off of such trees. Good Luck finding them!

It's not just a single state in the union that's able to lay claim to both the highest _and_ lowest points in the continental United States. A single county - Inyo county, California - is home to both altitudinal extremes, with Mt. Whitney _and_ Death Valley falling within this single county's borders. It truly astounds me, that does. RIP Andrew & Patty. Great work, as always Bryan. You're doing God's work.

Hi Bryan! These people going missing and being found deceased is so incredibly sad and tragic! I hope and pray they find collin and Sergey, and I pray that Patty Andrew and Matthew all rest in peace When they found Collins vehicle like it was it reminded me of Leah Roberts case her vehicle was found crashed off a mountain road in Washington as well. I continue to pray for you and your family and I hope you're doing well! I hope your mom has a happy mother's day! Timber

Very sad cases. We tried to summit Mt. Whitney once in late April - it was very tricky snow with 50+mph winds. Luckily we had a seasoned climber with us who said it was unsafe without gear & we turned back. It is definitely doable when the snow is gone tho, but it gets very crowded.

Hiked Granite Falls and Skyview many times over 10 years living in Monroe, Wa. The woods are very mossy, green and dark. Got off trail once and we were only 50 steps from trail but took us an hour to find it. Scary how easy it is to get lost. It's no joke. Bring compass, maps and trash bags as rain protection as it's always raining or misting. Cold temps and cold water and many areas along Granite falls where easily to slip and fall on slippery rocks. Don't get too close. So many have gone missing in the dense rainforests. Gorgeous but dangerous. So many fallen logs. May have tried to stay warm under fallen trees? Impossible to see them until you are right on them. Prayers for those lost and families

That's easy to say obviously, but not every person has a friend that likes hiking for example, so a lot of people who are into hiking often do it alone, because they don't have a friend that is into it etc. Therefore the best thing to actually have is a GPS locator beacon, this basically sends out some distress signal and enables you to be found by searchers, it works anywhere because it is GPS. However when it came to the two people together in the video that simply fell down the side of the mountain, nothing is going to save you from that obviously, that's a risk you always face when being up the side of a mountain, if you fall then very likely you will die instantly or die minutes later from severe injuries.

🇬🇧 I noticed you didnt mention exactly what the head injury that Sergei Sherapov suffered the day before his hike. Im assuming this info wasnt released. However, Sergei should have been made to seek medical advice & a check up before attempting any further climbs or hikes. Especially those over a certain age, but ANYONE getting a head injury should have been seen by medical professionals. Its so easy to suffer concussion Or even injuries unseen to normal observation such a bleeding inside the head. Sticking on a plaster is totally unacceptable. Especially if he told the group he was with that he felt unwell, the day he went missing, which suggests to me there were serious brain injuries. He should also have been accompanied back to the ranger hut or his car but driving while concussed isnt advised. I think its so irresponsible of the team leaders to have allowed Sergei to go back alone, if he had brain trauma it could have interfered with his judgement in finding his way back, taking the wrong turn shows he was confused. Im quite appalled that these days they would allow someone with a head injury to partake in a hike & not have taken him to a hospital or medical centre where an xray could have determined at least if they suspected further damage. To have not bothered & just accepted Sergei's answer that he was fine & stuck a bandaid on his visible head wound, wouldnt have deterred me in making him or taking him to seek medical help. Its also probably how he succumbed to his disappearance By becoming disorientated & unsteady & falling down & passing. Thank you Bryan I know you would have mentioned it if the cause of his head wound had been made public, so im assuming no one did. I find that so irresponsible. Peace & Harmony 🇬🇧👧

There’s just no way that Derek is the type of guy that would just ghost everybody and start a new life. It could be that a small misfortune escalated like a sprained ankle somehow. Based on what I’ve heard here it is a mystifying case. Brian, there was a disappearance that happened when I lived up at Whistler in the mid 90s that was traumatic for the town at that time. Still haunts me. Have you done an episode on Ann Marie Potton? Maybe something like that happened to him. Was it sub freezing temperatures at the time?

The most important thing ( besides being practical and take the items you need) is to be ready for death. Very few people even think about it ! But one can day anytime and there is a beautiful Heaven to gain and a Hell to shun. " Doung what you love upon your death is all very nice but it sure doesnt guarantee an eternity in Paradise. Sounds to me like there ought to be at least a required class people HAVE to attend and/or a stiff fee beforehand to even be allowed to make some of these more dangerous climbs. Sounds like more and more people show up very unprepared to actually do dangerous hiking, and then for their families to expect extraordinary or expensive efforts to try to rescue them is ridiculous. Probably just me, but I find it hard to be sympathetic regarding the deaths of people who won't seriously take on personal responsibility because they're just plain stubborn and/or won't do their own homework. I'm not necessarily referring to the folks in this video, but you know what I mean. I realize that even experienced hikers can make one slipup that brings about their death.
