Bay Area Flying (Palo Alto to Napa)

Video from a short flight a few weeks ago from Palo Alto Airport to Napa Airport transitioning threw the SFO Bravo before it was changed.

Several friends were GA pilots in Napa, where I was raised then moved from in '95. I loved renting aircraft with them and flying around the North Bay. We'd sometimes land at Schellville, a small uncontrolled airport near Sonoma, or otherwise land in Petaluma, Novato, Santa Rosa or Buchannan, and also Nut Tree. My favorite flights were one nighttime flight we took over San Pablo Bay, lit by a full moon, and we flew over San Francisco's piers before turning back for a night time landing in Napa. Our longest flight was from Napa to Pt. Reyes, south over the Golden Gate bridge, then east landing at Buchannan for lunch before our return to Napa. A wet lease for a 182 then was $50, and we shared the cost, which my friends loved because they could build time. I learned to fly years later, in '06, under light sport, and remain a recreational pilot today, preferring trikes over fixed wing, since I can fly back country and not worry about traffic or ATC.

Cool trip! I've done a right dumbarton departure to mid-span San Mateo, bravo transition to Napa before. Seemed a bit shorter but haven't actually plotted it.
