"Del" was like our "Tyler The Creator" of our golden era. He stood out with his clothing fashions, his rhyme delivery & the type of hip hop he did. He was one of the few even the white boys bought his music. I can recall back in high school when "I Wish My Brother George Was Here" album dropped. I knew quite a bit of white rock n roll stoners playing "Del".I dug all his albums but it was one project I heavily favored even today....it was when him & "Dan The Automator" form "Deltron 3030". That project concept was sick ! He wanted to do a distant futuristic album. With that, the album supposed to be what would hip hop would sound like in 300 years in the future....Songs like "3030" sounded like a "Independence Day" post Apocalyptic dystopian future sound. Then it's my favorite "Fantabulous Rap Extravaganza Extended Mix" That's song beat is like "Mirrors Edge" meets ,"Cyberpunk 2077" type of vibe. "Mastermind" got to be my second favorite on that album.....it had a "Avatar Meets Blade Runner" vibe....Then it's "Virus" a gritty song about a global pandemic spread across the planet & he survived....then it's "Madness" which talks about the planet done gone civil unrest & anarchy. You have to listen to the album to understand these songs concepts. I give you one more....then it's "Positive Contact". Which explains Humans made contact with alien beings & we now share the planet together.....overall, this was my favorite album by him...I have a vivid imagination on how Rap music & our planet would be like in 3030. 🎤🎧🎤🎧🎤🎧🎤🎧

Del was cold back then. Still is,, but his early work was so inspiring to see how much he loved rap. His skill was unbelievable, and he was always up for a good freestyle OF THE TOP. Rare in rap especially these days. Seeing him freestyle with Busta, and only them two went off top was a clip I watched over and over. You could see why they became who they are. But Del was just not mainstream. But in his case that's just fine. Great body of work.

Del was never meant for mainstream. Some artists never shoot for it. He was one of them. I remember hearing him and loving his joints. He made an entire song called Protoculture that was about video games. That's how left field he was. He didn't rap about the usual stuff most rappers did. He was always trying to make his art to his liking. And I am fine with that. No stunted growth for him. A stunted growth is for artists who tried to reach or reached mainstream but fell off somehow. He was never that type of artist

Thanks for shouting me out!! (this is mallick on my youtube channel) Del was one of the first rappers I came across when getting into hip hop in high school. Deltron 3030 and Third Eye Vision showed me you could use rapping as a vehicle beyond just gangster rap and even weave in nerdy sci fi and tell stories like a movie. The difference between him and Ice Cube despite being from similar backgrounds and being family shows how much trendiness/marketability dictates who "makes it" and who doesn't.

He's an example of how staying true to your own style and not falling for the traps of fame can pay off later on down the road. The money he makes from his own music sales is probably just considered "extra" seeing as he's living comfortably off the royalties from Gorillaz' "Clint Eastwood" alone (a song he didn't even feel like doing at first).

Regardless of the space(sub genre) you're in when it comes to Rap/Hip-Hop... ALL artists NEED to know how to "SELL THEMSELVES" when it comes to your craft. Good(or bad example) of this ice spice in the DUNKIN commercial on tv right now. For WHATEVER reason(s) dunkin is using her to SELL what they BEEN SELLING.... Ice coffee Even ben affleck is dumbfounded on why DUNKIN needs her to sell ice coffee.... she's popular and DUNKIN knows this You artists out there GOTTA learn how to SELL YOURSELF especially that we live in a QUANITY over QUALITY era Great video.... way more interesting than the yung dro piece.

Yea, he's definitely not a "Cat in the Hat" type of rapper. And, in order to catch the rhyme, you have to know how to cut syllables and enunciations. It's a free form of emceeing, sort of like John Coltrane with lyrics.

Del’s growth didn’t stunt by any means. He’s a lyrical legend in his own right. Heiroglyphics has proven over and over that you don’t have to be mainstream to make an impact on Hip-Hop music and Culture. Yet if you wanna do a video on anyone, why not do one on Nine Double M a.k.a. Nine??? Both Nine Livez & Cloud 9 were both dope albums. Yet peace to both Del the Funky Homosapian and Hieroglyphics.
@6378ams Жыл бұрын
So how was Del’s “growth stunted” when mainstream and mass appeal wasn’t what he was looking for. If this is the case Doom should be next up on the series. The video should be more of a bio then to say he was stunted. He even knew he was going to far sayin Del was stunted, that’s why it feels like he was talking both sides.
