This is the first line up I remember from 1971 time of this band. Them and The Sweet both had catchy tunes out in the early 70s with the first few single releases they had. Used to hear them both on the radio back at that time. Along with the other pop stars of the day. They were on Radio One with those early songs in the day time. Also saw articles and poster pics in the teen pop mags of back then. They were also gigging round the Country too. They were famous before they got more fans in 1974 and the new singer they got after Nobby left. They existed as a band before 1974 and after 1978. And were a good band before and after those years. Too. There was always a Roller band thru the decades. Just that some were not always aware of this. But when they done any appearances, there was always a crowd at the venues I went to see them at.

You can really tell this is Nobby instead of Leslie...and this is a good song. You hear so few songs from this period...so glad to finally hear what this sounded like (have only heard the title in passing up to now..)

Loved Bay City Rollers when Nobby was lead singer.

Nobby as a lead, very similar to Mckeown's voice, but with less pop and energy. Nobby sounds more like a folk singer. this song sounds like PeterPaul and Mary.

Catchy but I am thankful Eric Faulkner ended up writing so many good songs for the BCR. those were the best recordings and made me a fan.
@Juppalieu3 жыл бұрын
Indeed, the songs that Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood wrote were so underrated. The Bay City Rollers with the most successfull line up were really really good, so much more than only teen sensations

I could be wrong but I think Devine and Faulkner jumped on board in 73 not 72... thanks for posting this... great track
@Juppalieu3 жыл бұрын
No. Faulkner and Devine joined in 1972 and did Manana together with Nobby Clark and the Longmuirs.

My first time hearing this. Cool song, but way different than their later stuff, which I prefer. This has more of a 60s feel. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a song called „The Wreck Of The Antoinette“ from Dave Dee & Co. which was recorded in 1968.
@haj19093 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Probably also why it was never released: sounds too much like a couple of DDDBM&T songs from circa '68. This was recorded in '72, so it also sounds somewhat old-fashioned.
Did Nobby sing Shang-A-Lang? I found a copy on eBay the sleeve shows John and Nobby but Les is singing lead on the record .I bout it hoping that Nobby was singing .I didn’t know about Nobby till I saw him on you tube this summer .It’s to bad he didn’t stay with the group .His voice is way better than Les 2:55

No, Nobby never sang Shang-A-Lang :-) In some countries the single came with a photo of the band which was a few months old. The last thing Nobby ever did with the group in the studio was Remember. It's his voice on the original single version, although Les later put his voice on it for the LP ("Rollin'") version, which is often included on Best Of/Gr. Hits compilations as well. Previously, of course, Nobby's lead vocals were also on the original version of Saturday Night from 1973. He left the band in early '74.

Very different sound to the BCRs of 74 on. Lovely to hear it but I prefer the later sound. This has a very 60s sound.

Had to lookup how to spell Manana.. According to Eric's recollection they were glad it didn't work out ..he was with the group when Manana won the song contest.

Nobby Clark had a great voice. Shame he left when he did.

Nobby was a good songer, but lacked the epic drive of Les. That being said, his claim that it was HIS voice on the HIT versions of songs like "Remember", "Saturday Night" and "Shang-a-Lang" is an insult to fan's intelligence because CLEARLY it is Leslie singing. If he made a claim that they still used his backing vocals yet went uncredited, that i could maybe believe, but he's clearly making false claims as tohis lead vocals.
@haj19099 ай бұрын
To be fair, it is his voice on the original single version of Remember. Les's voice only replaced it on the Rollin' album version. To complicate matters further, most Best of comps include the LP version. Lazy work. As for Saturday Night, Nobby's lead vocals were only on the original, 1973 single version, which was, I believe, never even released outside Europe and sold exactly zilch. I honestly don't understand why Nobby keeps saying it's his vocals on the later international hit version of it. But...he continues to make these outlandish claims and there are plenty of people who don't know any better willing to take him at his word just because it fits the dialogue (talentless Rollers who didn't play on their own records, now, seemingly, didn't even sing on them either. Perfect.)

I think Les is the better vocalist. I’ve heard Nobby on all the early BCR recordings, and, to me anyway, Les was a much better singer.

Nobby's voice was so much better than McKeown's.

Are you joking !
@Juppalieu3 жыл бұрын
@@rjay1340 No, why should I? With McKeown the Bay City Rollers became popular, because they had a hit with Remember…and then it goes. I hope Les will R.I.P. he was a good singer, but his extra tours had been the end of the Rollers in 1978.

Les & Nobby’s voices brought different sound to the group. Les’ had a greater range & depth Nobby’s hadn’t.
