Those on about airflow, as long as full fill no airgap needed. What i would recommended on these is to remove the internal plasterboard and fit 25mm insulated plasterboard to help with cold bridging. May have to fit new window boards.

Great work Kirk, you mentioned it’s cost you money with extra materials etc but surely can’t you explain to the customer that the bay window was in a terrible state and that you weren’t to know this until you started taking it apart. So surely that’s the customers place to pay for the unforseen additional work??

Be careful with those tuning boxes. It’s basically just a resistor that increases fuel pressure at the rail. You won’t get better fuel efficiency and more power. That’s just the law of physics. Your van might report better mpg but it’s being fooled. If you check your fill to fill amounts for mpg, you’ll find you’ve lost mpg. They also invalidate your vans insurance. If you have an accident and the box is fitted, they won’t pay out.

Do you ever use other finish coats for render? Here in Australia we do a 3 coat system. It's coat acrylic render hi build then a second skim coat of acrylic render and then we do a coloured texture coat and we float it up with a plastic trowel. We also never use plastic corner beads. Always galvanised aluminium or stainless steel

More common than you'd think, it's brick-nogged construction. Certain era of cowboys/planners/architects thought it was acceptable to lay bricks directly on top of window/door frames instead of lintels, reinventing the wheel. It's likely that this is original to the house

Another thing with those houses (As we refurbished one in M20) is a lot of them historically had steel STRUCTURAL windows in them initially and these acted as structural support for the upper floor bay window, that's why they could have bricks there. Loads of people have since updated to plastic windows, but these are insufficient for the weight of the upper floor. Hence if going for plastic windows need to remove all the weight as you've done.

Been there, done that. Rotten timbers,no insulation. The property had been re-rendered previously which was hiding all of the horrors underneath. It was completely rotten and only the windows were holding the rendered section in place. It was only visible when the window was removed. Customer refused to pay anything towards the additional cost of the work. Like Kirk. I got burned on that one. .

You hear horrors stories about tradesmen jacking up the price but where a job develops into something else you need to charge extra for unforeseen time and materials maybe set out the risk of what you might find in the quote and likely extra cost . Craig and yourself shouldn't bear that risk, old geezer probs on a final salary pension scheme !!
@baldrickscunningplan6154
@baldrickscunningplan6154 4 ай бұрын
Sometimes you get faced with a loss that could possibly turn out to be an even bigger loss by digging your heels in. Walking away from the job, when you have already purchased several thousands in materials is not an option. The customer may not be in a position to pay for the additional costs. Then there are the elderly customers or families, that you cannot consciously ask for more money. Sometimes you just have to chalk it up to a bad experience. Leave the customer happy and get paid. There is always the next job.@@imwilki
