Hi Kirk , love the vids. Been in building trade for 30 years now and been a sub contractor for 25 of those. Been on my own now for 5 years. I’m a painter not a plasterer although I do patch jobs and also dry lining and other maintenance/building work . Spit up from missus and had to move house. Well she had the house I’m now in a flat on my own 😂 I have a 6 year old girl and a 14 year old girl. Haven’t seen my 14 year old daughter for nearly 8 years now so seeing you with your daughter at work also being 14 bought a tear to my eye as I can relate to you as a self employed person but wished I could take my daughter to work. Anyway this message isn’t about that. I just want to generate new work in the village I’ve moved to. I do all the free advertising on social media but I was thinking of signing up to your plan. But wasn’t sure if it was just solely for plasterers or all trades? I’m just looking for more regular work. I do work for a couple of builders and a letting agent in the village and obviously private but that’s not enough. I know how busy you are but any feedback I would appreciate. Keep up the good work. Craig

It's the one with us all in the trades... People think they can decide when to pay/not to pay etc.. And they kicker like you had people working out prices and deciding your day rate is not on and you deserve less.. It drives you insane almost like saying here are I'll knock up a gauge and you put it on and make it look spot on😂😂 never happening.. People always feel they are getting ripped off and it's not always the way(yes u get them we all know) but you get what you pay for... Top stuff as always love the channel and your a top bloke/team 👍

Nice job bud. Cleaning is king as you say. On your reveals whatever size angles you've used use next size down stops or bells over the top at the back against the frame. You get a nice square reveal, easier to scrape back and can't crack away from frame then easier to clean against.

top tip on scratching the final coat if you are doing this in winter you can do it the same day just get a small gas bottle and a touch gun this is what flat roofers use for touch on felt let it go off for 1 or 2 hours then lightly put the flame all over it do 2 meters at a time that will get the moisture out of the top coat and should be ok to do a scratch the same day saves you going back the following day i done this method years ago you only need a light flame from the gun just comes with practice get the balance right hope you like this tip

Only just came across your channel other day and what a brilliant video that was . I'm a brickie if 35 years and have had my own business of 17 years , just myself, and recently I've had a building contractor wanting me to reduce my rate of 2 years working for him by £2-50 an hr . I have turned that down . I have customers willing to wait a year or more for my work so now back to that mainly having a bit more freedom again . I can do all roughcast apart from k-rend but after watching that video I would be more confident now of taking it on .

One issue I came across with not sheeting the windows up once was a small splat dripped down the glass and when it got wiped off the grit scratched the glass on a brand new window. Dug into the profit having to buy a new pane and even though we swallowed it the customer wasn't impressed. Bit of plastic masking and half an hour is cheaper than buying new glass for sure.

At the end of the day, you have to remember all the tools, vehicle, insurance, workers, and the years of experience you have from doing this type of work. If your customers are not willing to pay you your worth, then apparently the didn't need your services as bad as they thought. I used to build and weld aluminum crew boats before for a living, before I starged having medical problems. A couple of the guys working at the shipyard, used to get asked by boat owners if we could weld, or do some patch work. When we would give them the a price that was higher than oir hourly rate, they would try and haggle you down. We would have to ask them if they tried to haggle the mechanic that just fixed their engines. When they said no, we would ask them why the were trying to get a lower price from us then. In the end, if they would of had someone come out that was bonded, and certified, it would of coast they at least a thousand more than qe were charging. In the end, no your worth brother, and do not let anyone take advantage of you, regardless where they fall on the social scale.

I have had the same problem with customers, it seems the more efficient you are the less you should be paid? I could say day rate £200 a day the job will take 3 days they'd be happy but if you did it in 1 day and ask for £600 they think your too expensive. It feels like your getting penalised for being good at your job . If you skim 100m2 in a day your not going to charge a day rate when I see spreads doing 10m2 a day for the same day rate

I was thinking that the customer who was being funny about paying you was taking your kindness for a weakness then you said it yourself about 10 seconds later, I can't believe they also tried to change the job to a day rate some people are cheeky beyond belief I had a bloke do it to me about 4 years ago it literally took me to get to the point where I turned up with a hammer & chisel & threaten to take the render back off the wall
@Trekz8610 ай бұрын
I don't think it was about taking his kindness for weakness. It's more jealous clients who think you're making a fortune on their job. They don't realise it's hard work and materials cost a lot. I get these idiots all the time here in Melbourne Australia.

Paid them pronto as a man of my word. Week later all gutters flooded, dripping. Investigated closer and they had just slapped plastic over the rotten wood, screwed the pipes together, trod all over her flat roof which now has water flooding in…upon further investigation he has done it to other vulnerable women. Horrible, so I feel your anger/frustration, but from the other side
