I enjoy both styles of RP. I love to see the chaos stuff like this and think it is great to allow a bit of this on a server dedicated for it. I do like the more serious as well but now and then it is great to see characters like George and Boat BOy wreck havoc as they seem like they would do lol. Also, IRL, you can get a street legal tank. You need to have the gun decommissioned and register it as farm equipment, though (complete with one of those reflector triangles)

and gotta make sure if you need it "road legal" that it has rubber treads so it cant be a "destruction of government/public property" issue

Farm equipment is not road legal. You are not allowed on roads for normal driving, it can only be used to go between properties where it is being used. A tank would not qualify to leave the property.

Strangely it sounds like it's easier here in the UK. There's a specific tracked vehicle driving licence category, that requires its own theory and practical test. But the tank can just be registered for road use. And because of the age of the tanks sold to the public, they fall under the "Classic car" banner and don't need to be taxed or MOTed.
