I'm a simple woman that rambles and shows you chickens or rabbits or plants. Married, kids....you know the thing.
I am creating a micro-homestead on my .45 acres in eastern West Virginia. My goal is to become more self-sufficient for the health and security of myself and my loved ones. I also want to share and learn with others about homesteading so those that may be hesitant can see how easy and rewarding it is (no matter where they live) while growing my own knowledge.

You could try to candle the remaining eggs - maybe at night so she won't be too distressed? Also, you might know this already, but if the chicks are getting pieces of grass and other greens, you could add a bowl of chick grit for them so they don't develop any issues. They are all so cute, and your garden is looking good too!

Thank you! Good call on the grit! I think I still have some from when the girls were little. I'm going to leave the eggs for another day or two. I marked them all on the 7th of May so it's very unlikely that any of them are viable. She was sitting on them several days before I marked them, apparently longer than I thought lol. I wasn't expecting them quite so soon. Thanks for watching!

Those bunnies and chicks are so cute! Your new setup inside looks perfect. I think that the chicks outside might be able to squeeze through the bars, hopefully not.

See, I was worried about that and I watched them all day yesterday and none of them got through. I'm going to keep a close eye on them until I know for sure they are too big to get through them. Thanks for the heads up!

Is there a reason your two chickens with the fluffy faces are separated from the rest of your flock?

Yes, I got the 2 faverolles after the original flock and when I tried to integrate them the other chickens terrorized them and chased them around pecking the feathers from their legs. I read that sometimes you have to just let them work it out so I left them in with the others until they started drawing blood. Had to draw the line. So we now have 2 chicken enclosures. Oddly enough, the rooster has feathered legs too and they keep them plucked smooth. They don't draw blood on him tho. The hens pluck the feathers from the roosters neck too. They're weird and vicious sometimes. Thanks for watching!!

@friendsofthefeather I figured there had to be a reason. They usually work out a pecking order when you introduce new chickens to the flock. But terrorizing and pecking them bloody doesn't sound like that, poor girls. I've seen people introduce chickens by having them in a separate enclosure next to the coop so they can get used to each other before intergrating. They can definitely be ferocious and quite aggressive little raptors sometimes. 🤣

@@cherishthirdeye Yes! That's exactly what I did. I had a narrow run right next to my big run for the main flock. Chicken wire was the only thing separating them. I had them like this for months and thought for sure it would be ok but no. I REALLY didn't want to maintain 2 coops but the girls are so sweet. They are beautiful and they are big talkers. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be, having 2 enclosures.
