CRAYOLA CHALLENGE!

This is a challenge I created where you make a piece of artwork using a ballpoint pen and Crayola pencils. Show what you can make with cheap art supplies! Feel free to leave a video response if you try this challenge. You don't actually have to show the colouring process if you don't want to. You can just show the finished product and maybe say a few words about it. Also, you don't need to use Crayola brand pencils. Any pencils that aren't considered professional quality are okay.
MATERIALS:
-regular printer paper
-black ballpoint pen
-Crayola pencil crayons/colored pencils (colours listed below)
-Sakura Gelly Roll (for white highlights)
TIME: About 2 hours for sketching and inking, and 3 hours for colouring.
COLOURS USED:
Skin: peach, tan, sand, light brown, salmon, raspberry, gray, white
Hair: yellow, lemon yellow, golden yellow, brown, light brown, hazel, white
Tree trunks and path: brown, light brown, dark brown, hazel, mahogany, white
Greens (grass, trees, clothes): green, lime green, yellow green, jade green, pine green, white
Zelda's Clothes: pink, magenta, violet, maroon, golden yellow, light brown, brown, slate, white
Sky: blue, cerulean, turquoise

A better blending technique would be using baby oil.

Raven Arella huh. that's interesting. but not a lot of younger artists would have access to baby oil, and wouldn't that risk damaging the paper? especially if one is using cheap paper and not high quality paper?

Mitarai Ren I actually use computer paper and it works quite nicely. You have to dab the napkin in the baby oil, then brush it on your skin a bit to get rid of some of it. I find it works rather well.

Very inspirational. I also agree that a person doesn't need expensive colored pencils or inking tools to make awesome drawings. But markers... there's a big difference between Copics and crayola in my opinion!! you need those. well at least i do. lol if only i could afford copics

Spectrum noir and fine color are the cheapest you are going to find. They average to be around $1 per marker. If you are passionate about getting good markers, you'll work hard for the money.

Oil pastels is the cheapest art supplies in my country though...crayons also one of the cheapest but heck.....its ugly. Colour pencils....it take a lot of time to colour and it made my hand cramped. Poster colour is the cheapest to use in high schools (since we can't afford high quality watercolours)

Hey thanks for the video it was really inspiring, I'm an aspiring artist myself I've been drawing for over a decade but have only just got into using color for my work, I just found it super intimidating and had no idea where to start I still don't actually. One of my artist friends recommended Sargent markers to use since it was a decent brand to use for just starters like me, but I just felt so disheartened when I tried them and every tutorial video I looked up showed how to use Copic or Prismacolor markers but not Sargent, thus I became very frustrated and kind of stepped back from color for a little bit. I would like to own Copic markers or even a box of Prismacolor but they're just so expensive and dealing with college expenses I just haven't had the money. So I was wondering I know you live in Canada so I have no idea if you would even be able to get a small pack their but is there any chance that you could do a challenge with Sargent markers? And if not just a bit of advise would be a big help too I'm just having a tough moment with my art at the moment. Thank you!!

I feel your pain. I am self taught. I can draw, but I find coloring, and more specifically shading, a huge challenge because I don't even know where to start. I can't do ANYTHING with colored pencils without the shading being wonky. I just started using cheap water colors, and I find that a bit helpful with shading, but it is still a challenge.

When I saw this on Google I thought it was animated. Now I know where it came from and it's amazing that you actually drew it and colored it with colored pencils. Im doing the challenge right now. Good video! I love you and your videos. Good idea. I have actually been thinking of how to shade color with color pencils like you do with copic markers. Also, i like it more when you do the narrative type more than music cause then you cant actually tell us about what you have drawn and is trying to show us. I love you and your videos! Your work is beautiful. I actually work that way with the color pencils myself. Even the Prisma, except then it's the colorless blender. Light and layering at first and then blending.
