If the bugs fly they could be fungus gnats. We just had a huge infestation of them from a plant brought home from home depot. Neem oil and sticky traps have been our saving grace.
@slygrani3 жыл бұрын
this. also if they are gnats ( but its weird if they are on cat food) you can put a layer of pebbles a few inches deep. the gnats lay their eggs in the top few inches of the soil so if they can reach the soil then they won't be able to procreate
@Britneybuu3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Also fungus gnats love moist soil so watering plants from underneath to keep the top of the soil dry can help! Super weird too, I used starchy water leftover from boiling pasta on a plant with fungus gnats and they're gone now. No idea there but it was interesting lol

Bailey!, I saw someone on Tiktok saying that sometimes the soil we buy at stores, tend to have tons of bug eggs and / or lot of pest. The person recommended that before using the soil you should put the soil at the sun for a lot of hours, or baking it at the oven or add hot boiling water on the soil to kill these bugs (Remember that these are before adding that soil to your plants). I haven't tried but it made sense to me as, I just recently repotted one of my plants and suddenly it had a lot of bugs eating the leafs :c.

For the bugs, put out a container of apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dawn dish soap. I always like to add a little sugar or something sweet to it too. They actually look a little like weevils! We buy our cow feed in bulk and it stays infested with these, but they can also be brought home in rice, cat food, cereal, (boxed/bagged items) etc. from the grocery store. We’ve never had an infestation inside, thankfully, but it can happen!

We had an infestation of those bugs from a bag of dog kibble we bought once. The bag of food itself was contaminated when we bought it and we didn't realize because we dump the food into a food bin so we had to toss the whole thing out when we noticed all the crawling bugs when the food was close to running out. The bugs started spreading and got into our cupboards and rice bin and they liked to hide and move around in our base boards. The way we got rid of them was by using a powder called Diatomaceous Earth and dusting it (we got a dust bulb thing to make it easier) all over the areas where they were congregating and along the baseboards and killing any stray bugs we found. The powder is food grade so it's pet and human safe (which was great because we had an infant at the time).

Hi Baylee. Your new lodgers are soil mites. They usually feed on compost, and are drawn to decaying organic matter, which is why they are mooching around the cat bowls. Remove any dead leaves in the soil of your plant, and spray the soil with very diluted washing up liquid or a cinanmon and water (I’ve also heard garlic and water spray works too). There should be some recipes for these on the internet 🙂

I am not totally sure what bugs those are but my plant mom friend says to use baking soda in the plant pot soil. Like a half inch covering all the soil for a day or two. I had a flying bug in the soil of one of my plants and this killed them all like a charm. Then afterwards cleaning your plant leaves with water and a dash is dish soap will keep pests away. Best of luck!

Crazy plant lady here. ❤ If you just use the vinegar solution or sticky traps, you're gonna be battling those forever. You can kill the ones in the soil by using a water and peroxide mixture. It will kill the ones in the soil, and the plant doesn't mind. In the future, make sure you use a really well draining mix for your soil so that it doesn't stay wet for a long time. Make sure it has some orchid bark or something to improve drainage. I really like the de la tanks mix, if you don't want to mix your own soil. I doubt that your money tree needs a new pot. If you up the pot size without changing the soil to a more well draining mix, you'll make your problem worse. Neem oil can help, but gotta kill what's in the soil.

The white borders are great for people who will just tape or pin the print to the wall. People who are extra (like me, my mom used to do professional framing) can sometimes be irritated by a border because sometimes they don't line up with the mat, then I end up having to cut a custom mat! Not a big deal though, mats are cheap. Kiki is my favourite problem child and she's such a cute tiny shadow to you. Not sure if those are gnats or not but I don't think it hurts to try something like them. We have been having a big gnat problem in our apartment so what we did was for plants there are this little stick gnat trap that you put in the soil for them to catch because they do bury into the soil. To catch them around elsewhere there are these sticky tapes that you can put on the window to help catch them in case they are coming from outside.

You have provided a bug Utopia in that corner - constant sunlight, wonderful live plant bed, source of fresh food and fountain of fresh water, it’s a bugs life. I usually just suck them up in the vacuum, sorry I know that sounds harsh after comparing it to Bug’s Life. I would also move the cat food and water each to separate areas of the room as to make it less comfortable for the bugs to hang out in. I would keep that spider in your pot too, he’s in a good spot if the bugs are breeding in the soil - they’re good bug catchers. I don’t know if your arachnophobic or not but I’m sure the kitties will keep that spider from adventuring out of bounds. Personally, I avoid using any kind of soil treatment or trapping solutions because I have to worry about what is safe for the cats. I would love to keep indoor plants and hope that there is a better solution than my suggestions, lol. keep us posted on what methods you try out and if they are working :)

I can highly recommend using sunblock on the burn (spf 50), once it heals, if not covered by clothes and you will be in the sun - helps it not get tanned. My daughter got burned on the barbeque when she was small, one big burn across the back of her shoulders, and one smaller one on her arm - the one on her back (which was covered up by clothes most of the time) went away within a year, the one on her arm, which got tanned, was visible for several years.
