I remember when around the time this game came out. I didn’t play it at first, because I was approaching middle school and didn’t have a lot of free time, and I didn’t know how to explain to my family that this game wasn’t all that sacrilegious from as far as I could tell... but then I saw Jontron’s old top ten boss battles video, saw Jubileus was number one, and the joy and enthusiasm he had sold me to the point to where I knew I had to play it, awkward talk to my dad about why a woman was spanking angels be damned. I’m glad that people are still playing this game, and have that same enthusiasm as when it first came out all these years later. Good video.

Can we all take a moment to thank baldur who kept his promise to always watch over bayonetta. If he didn't brought young cereza on to the first game, we wouldn't get a third game where cereza saved the multiverse

True, Balder really is the MVP in this. Carried Cereza to play with Bayonetta that led to the third game, absorbed the evil essence of Loptr in the second game leading to his "Agent Peacock" phase in the first game and his and Loptr's deaths in the very beginning of the 2nd game...

Reupload: some footage replaced with CC footage, appropriate attribution given in description, cleaned up some audio pops that got on my nerves and honestly, the CC footage helped me make better visual aids. Mostly. This video was also made a year before the Hellena Taylor controversy so how's that for a time capsule. Thank you for your support and understanding man that sounds copy paste but I do mean it. Goes without saying if you need Bayonetta footage, feel free to take it from my review. On a personal note- be careful using Freepik's photo website. When downloading images they say adding credit in the description is enough, but in reality they want credits in the video itself. Smallprint. Their videos are hosted on Videvo however, and under the Videvo license.

My biggest concern here is that my voice echoes so much it's unreal. These days I use nvidia broadcast to get rid of it. Before I would hang up towels and duvets to muffle my echo. It's this room, it was so bad it gave me headaches, now I have a rug and I don't echo quite so much rofl. But ya know what you're absolutely right and it's also wonderful to hear this. This video was made during covid and I had to reupload it later. It's a big deal to me. Thank you dude. I really mean it and I appreciate your kind words. Thank you!

Aw Tali is one of my favourite characters. Her growth across the three games is, I mean I have to say I didn't love ME3, but I never felt they did a disservice to her. She starts off as a woman trying to prove her worth in pilgrimage, before having to suffer the judgement of her own people, and goes on to have a hand in determining the future of her species. Garrus is in the male hall of fame. Morrigan just gives no fucks and gets shit done, and Claudia Black nails that role so well. Yeah big fan haha! Sorry for long comment, thank you so much for watching and commenting, it really makes me smile and I'm glad someone noticed that transition haha!! I tried :P

@@reallylatereviews It also helps that the voice actor for Morrigan is also the voice for Admiral Xen in mass effect. Her voice just melts me every time lol Besides the ending though, ME3 is good in my book, especially with the Citadel DLC, bringing all the old and new crew members (excluding Mordin 😥) into one big shore leave party with the best banter and jokes. One sixth through the video as I am writing this. Initially wanted to give my thoughts/experience with the Bayonetta series before watching the vid, to share my thoughts as they currently are, because I think mine's more unusual than most. But I got curious and surprised by how nicely I wanted to watch along. Checked out your channel and it's nice to see that you're still active, i think i'm liking it. (Will be finishing watching your video after posting this comment) When I first encountered Bayonetta I was rather prudish and not a fan of big bloody violence. Didn't like dominatrix-type characters and I was under the impressions that Bayonetta was a sadistic *bleep*hole for the sake of it, but should be excused for being a *bleep*hole because she was sexy. Similarly I didn't care for the other two kings in the genre, GOW and DMC. GOW felt too brutal and horrible from what I knew of it, and DMC I... didn't really care for. Didn't know or think much of it. But this genre, whatever it may be named (hack-and-slash/character action/spectacle fighter/whatever the debate is at the moment) did grow out to be one of my favourites. My first more direct experiences were with Darksiders 1 and 2. There's a lot about them that hits *right* for me that I shan't get into at this time. At some point I started growing more open-minded and came to reluctantly accept that GOW, Bayonetta, DMC etc and the like must be the kings of the genre-- and that i'd be afraid that when I got to play them, I wouldn't love the Darksiders games as much as I do anymore. My line of thought was that I want to keep loving and giving attention to the smaller guys, so to speak, and that if I had a taste of the true peak, i'd forget about them . There would be a lot of attention to a series that is already very beloved and supported, which I thougt doesn't really need new fans as strongly. (At this point i like to think i'm better at more nuanced thinking than I used to be) It came to the point that I got to dislike Bayonetta and the other series less when I looked stuff up about them-- and learnt of just how many flaws and divisive elements there may be among all the games. Got actually quite fascinated with the lore, mainly in terms of the Angels of Paradiso. Big love for the references to mythology and bits of history from all over, too, mainly in the weapons. I read a bit here and there too how, essentially, Bayo as a character exuded a lot of confidence that hit right with many people, even more so at perhaps bad/severe times in their lives, including some people in this comment section. Like you, based on some replies. That in itself is incredibly heartening and i'm glad the games exists for that. Still, for me, it doesn't hit. I don't jive with Bayonetta as a character and as a narrative based on, from what I understand: - How ridonculous the story gets, so to speak, with the time travel stuff, and how it is told. It's played fast and loose for spectacle. - How Bayonetta feels like she can already take on anything. Nothing's safe from her, she's already top dog, she won't have to break a sweat, she can afford to turn her fights into performances, etc. Based on her past she's probably earnt it too, and i see how it could encourage people to improve themselves to be more like her-- metaphorically or directly in gameplay. But it feels like the universe bends itself to her will just to make her look cool. That's to a point of annoyance for me, like one is being commanded to like her, and it rubs me the wrong way. - What i know of the dialogues. "Don't f#%$ with a witch" and jamming the middle finger into a bike as a starter key don't hit me as strongly as back-and-forths like: "You have slain many of my warriors". "I have yet to find a warrior among you". from Darksiders 1, the Phantom General vs War. Even better because the Phantom General speaks in a demon tongue and War replies in the creature's own language. Or for example, when releasing the demon Samael from his prison: "War... have you come to play executioner? They should have sent all Four of you." "Has prison made you a coward, Samael?" This incited a unique reaction from Samael of being truly set off-- which is rare in the series where It's simple, witty and well-spoken in surprising calmness. Mind: I have never watched all the cutscenes of any Bayo game properly, so I don't have proper conception of the scenes where the emotions ought to hit. Sometimes the emotions hit before the brain has thought about it. That, and seductress types aren't a favourite character archetype of mine. Still trying to grow to not be as bothered by past prejudices as I used to be. So lingering impressions and matters of taste still play into why i'm not as fond of the series as other games. I think that I would have enjoyed a significant, chain-clad character from Bayo 2 more as a protagonist Through the years I've looked more through the genre and found various other ones that, while definitely with their ups and downs and inbetweens on all fronts, have appealed to me more in terms of story, characters, general feel and emotions. They aren't as known, and thus for me were more fascinating. The aforementioned Darksiders series, Heavenly Sword, the Lords of Shadows games, to a degree Dante's Inferno and Knight's Contract. Most recently, and one of my favourites, is a newcomer from 2022 by name of Soulstice. Soulstice is the closest game gameplay-wise to Bayonetta that I have played, while the tone and writing was closer in line with Darksiders. It has its own ups, downs, in-betweens and divisive elements for many... but its narrative and story are in a top 3 for me. It's a really surprising newcomer in the genre, higher quality than one would expect for such a debut title in a genre that's not as catered to nowadays. To return to Bayonetta specifically, and in a nutshell: I had the wrong impression of Bayonetta for a long while, after some years i was able to look at it with a better eye, i've only experienced it through secondary ways and the series and my tastes combined with some of my lingering prejudice haven't lined up. I'd rather bring the lesser-known ones to people's attention, both old and upcoming, from The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile to Genokids and Immortal: And the Death that Follows. But seeing the many messages and comments throughout the years, of the positive lingering influence that Bayonetta as a character and series has had on people, is something undeniably special. For what it is, for what it was and for what it can be, I hope that it and many other tales and games, can keep on having chances to bring that enthousiasm and the will to improve oneself into the world. Do whatever you want with this comment. Thank you for taking the time to read it all through if you have done so. Hope you may find what is said interesting, may find yourself intrigued in the games I mentioned, and wish you good luck and fun with future projects and undertakings, be they videos or otherwise.

This is such a lovely comment to read, thank you. I think it says a lot to look at something despite your preconceptions, and if more people did that, well that would great. For me I am still not a fan of gore or ultraviolence, it just makes me feel quite sick haha! But I did dig the character of Bayonetta. And, as it isn't incredibly gory, the violence felt as slapstick as it was brutal. There is a lot of emotion in Bayonetta glossed over in the marketing and it's such a strange mirror to marketing for other games. They try to make a lot of characters into sex symbols for marketing, even though the game doesn't feature anything like that tonally. In Bayonetta they marketed the sauciness but not the heart. I've heard of a few of these games you mentioned but not all of them. Soulstice is one I've been looking at for quite a while but I'm often put off due to feedback about the camera and combat. Knights Contract, aw not on PC but if it were haha! I'm just glad you came to look at Bayonetta differently after time. You're absolutely right as well, as you said I get to see some comments saying the character has had a profound effect on someone. It's nice. I worry a little less about things after playing Bayonetta. OH I had a quick look at Clash: Artifacts of Chaos! (I saw your other comment!) I haven't heard the name Zeno Clash in ages, but I know nothing about any of those games. Gosh Pseudo looks so strange. Let me quickly add thank you! For watching, and for sharing such a lovely experience, I really enjoyed reading this. Thank you!

@@reallylatereviews Thank you in turn for taking the time to read that comment through and leaving a reply on it. I'm glad it was of interest for you. Was afraid it'd be quite annoyingly egotistical/self-centred because it's largely about me specifically and not the contents of the video. The effort you put into it is very clear and shines through strongly and that is very much worth giving attention to. True, it's important and helpful to be able to step outside yourself to look at things in a new way. Understandable on feeling sick through the ultraviolence too. When DOOM 2016 first came out folks seemed to love it but i was *very* much put off. Similarly so when I first saw Markiplier play through The Dishwsher: Vampire Smile at age... fourteen or something. Blood generally hasn't been something i've really been at awe at. Now it doesn't really register with me anymore. I guess I see it as an accentuation of the power of a movement within the context of the game, but still don't like to see blood in real life or in movies. *i'll get back on the slapstick thing at the end of this comment. "Marketed the sauciness but not the heart" as far as I understand it, that sauciness is part of Bayonetta's heart, right? But it's not the whole of the thing. Oh yeah, I personally dearly love Soulstice but i'm aware it's not the most straightforward game in the genre to get into. Quite a lot of mechanics to it. Some people don't like the camera being on a set path during general traversal gameplay, while in most combat encounters it's more freely controllable. I didn't take notice of camera too much in my own playthroughs. In terms of combat, the moment-to-moment combat does feel good. There's seven weapons total that will be available at all times once unlocked. They all get their own unique animation movesets and utilities and there's a mechanic where Lute (the ghost sister) can perform a counterattack on any enemy from any distance while you're continuing your own animations. In the game proper you will be more gradually introduced to things. On Normal difficulty it's all quite managable. Sometimes the levels can drag on a bit, there's a few annoying enemy types, annoying attacks of an enemy that's otherwise managable, challenging enemy matchups and environmental hazards, which isn't unique for character action/hack-and-slash games. In terms of mechanics, you've probably heard of the color coding but it's not as bad as it could be. All seven weapons total will still be viable for any enemy, and the "timer" for keeping up a forcefield to make Wraiths and Corrupted vulnerable can be pushed back with every hit against a colored enemy. The Broken don't need a forcefield. Will say: There's some mid-to-lategame enemies that can chain a teleport up to three times in a row. Two Corrupted and two Wraiths. can be more annoying if you don't have/make use of: - The double punch daggers. They deal rapid, swift concentrated multiple hits that has boosted damage to these enemy types *and* in terms of behaviour is simply very quick. Good for staggering enemies. - The whip's grappling hook. When locked on to an enemy, there is *no* range limit. - A skill in the final tier of Lute's skill tree that makes enemies vulnerable even for a few seconds after leaving a force field. This is so that when these Summoner or Sorcerer types chain their teleports, you can grapple back to them immediately (the lock-on icon stays on them when teleporting). The Wraith Summoners/Sorcerers are normally intangible, so previous tactic doesn't work as smoothly until you have that "remain vulnerable for a few seconds" skill. Even still, these enemies are managable i'd say most of the roster is fairly solid (EXCEPT THE FUPPING ABOMINATION. Thankfully he only appears thrice). There can be things to look out for like a quick and sudden attack from Mongrels and Alphas, the Eidolon making crystal shards above your head which will home in unless you dodge at the right time, or the Mauler having a ground smash with AoE for both inserting his fist into the ground and pulling his fist back out. But there's a lot on your side too. I already mentioned the double punch daggers and its utility. The whip has low damage but generally hits in a wide range, multiple times, and is recommended against enemies that swarm around you. The hammer and fist are good against barriers (enemy shields, magical or physical) and armor with the fist even having charge-up moves that boosts damage and extends the reach of your swing, etc. All of them have full movesets and can be interchanged through combos quite freely. Uhm, anyway, i'm writing this all down (and deleted a lot more because it got too big) because i want to get you more interested in Soulstice to actually try it out. Very much love it, warts and all. Story, world and gameplay alike, warts and all. "I worry a little less about things after playing Bayonetta". For all the in-depth talking about Soulstice I do, i feel like I should talk at least half as much about this statement. That's something really sweet and heartening. I don't think i could really add much to that-- it's a game that, for you and others, has a good effect to this day. That's the way it is. And YEAAAHHH Pseudo looks weird and gnarly and uncanny, and I love it. The only game series I can think of with protagonists as weird would be the Oddworld games, and even then Pseudo doesn't quite have the cuteness factor of Abe and Munch. oh, and also the point-and-click game Paradigm. Zenozoik has a lot to offer, in appearance and in world. itself. Wish you a lot of fun in experiencing it when time and opportunity may allow! You're most welcome, and thank you once more for giving me your time of day to read through it all and write a reply. I'm glad it was of interest. Wish you well and have a good one! Will keep my eye on this channel. *continuation of the asterisked part: Fair point on the violence feeling like slapstick. There's a game from *very* late last year, a hand-drawn 2D animated metroidvania called Cookie Cutter, that leans into that as well. Its combat system is smooth and fast-paced, and the tone of the entire world is quite out-there. It's the lead dev's proverbial baby: the culmination of his tastes and experiences with various media throughout the years, from comics and cartoons to music and manga. In an interview he's even cited the main protagonist to be inspired by the girls he remembers from the Italian rave scene: "They were tough, they could kick your &ss and they were always drunk and upset and lovely" Cookie Cutter as is already looks like a cartoon or comic book. The world's quite colorful and out-there. Weapons and specials consists of a metal fist, an electric guitar, spitting pink fireballs out of one's robot face, and some more. Finishers can involve giant buzzsaws, screwdrivers, tightening some alien creature's collar so tightly its insides pop out, a spiked chastity belt butt bash... There's dirty humor too like penis graffiti on the walls and a hidden room with dildos on a table, but it's not all that there is to the game and its world. There's a history, there's mutants, there's aliens, there's human souls imprisoned within robot bodies that serve as slaves for an upper class in a dystopia, meaning not even peace of death remains untouched by evil, gluttony and greed. The story doesn't go super deep into philosophy or is here to tell a moral, but what is here can be quite interesting. To give an example by way of a merchant NPC... there's a rather amorous skeleton robot with an afro named Rob. Every other sentence he speaks is an innuendo or dirty joke and Cherry (the protagonist) is no fan of it herself. But Rob keeps his sleaze with words, not with actions. When you offer him a safer place to stay, he moves there and tells you of hidden parts of an expensive motorbike as an optional sidequest. When you have collected all the pieces, the dude expresses his thanks for allowing him to be there, even if his words are coated in Rob-isms, and gifts this entire bike to Cherry. At the end of the game (so far) there's a severe event where he pretty much drops all the innuendo outright due to the weight of the situation. It doesn't constantly treat itself like a joke or point out its own weirdness: Dirty, provocative humor is part of it, sometimes very strongly. But so is genuine emotion that plays itself straight. About four years ago I might not have cared much for it to get this invested. The lead dev has stated he values making what you like, alongside making stories for the sake of the story. Letting something be its own thing. He went over hundred interviews with possible publishers before he found one that is comfortable with letting the creative vision be what it is, without interfering to make it more marketable. First impressions of Cookie Cutter put me off at first too (as did some later ones), it's proven divisive for other people and some are quick to assign it as something politically charged. But it's grown on me much more than I initially could have expected and that made me able to press on past these initial shocks and discomfort. Solid game as is, there is a lot more planned and I am very, very excited to see it. I try to spread the word of the lesser-known cool games wherever I can.

Sometimes they're gonna comment on character design, and maybe sometimes I veer into the surrounding but I check to keep it from becoming soapboxing of any kind! This series had the potential to be better than Devil May Cry and Bayonetta 3 was the nail in the coffin. Bayonetta 2 had it's problems, but it was still an entertaining game even if it was much easier.

Regarding the button mashing on PC, customizing the controls through steam input fixes that issue. I have it so all my face buttons become fast repeated presses whilst holding down on the D-pad. Down on the D-pad doesn't actually have an in-game function so I use that as an activator. That way when the time comes I can just hold the acquired face button and it'll mash by itself.

17:46 Stuff like this *really* should be balanced with the commentary much nearer the beginning; that to my jaded, over-tired ears sounded suspiciously like you were giving the "sex sells" excuse / trope a "free ride". (IMO if that's what the marketing bodies @ the Publisher, and perhaps the Developer, have decided will "sell" their game, it's because they've deemed it worthy of having lots of coverage *because* it's easy for them to "market", because there is obvious female anatomy to show off; not because they find it novel. Their "audience", the vast majority of which won't play it anyway, may disagree.) See recent memes of "Tracer's Arse", i.e. referencing the Overwatch games (you did too). While I have subscribed: I can't give this a thumbs up; please keep producing though.

So from what I've heard and seen, yeah it's the same sort of game as DMC. But I've also heard Bayonetta handled a lot better than DMC (at the time) so I think you'll be alright. To put this in perspective, Bayonetta has 5 difficulty settings. I beat it on normal by brute force and on hard with a bit of finesse after learning the game. I'm terrible at these sort of games so I would say try it on normal, if you feel it's not happening switch down to easy. The game encourages you to come back later on a harder setting anyway, it's one of those rare games where it's more fun to learn in an easy environment than tackle the hardest setting head on. Sorry for long answer! But I bet you can beat this game, because my fighting style is scrub tier as well. Thank you also for watching my video and commenting, cause I really appreciate that! Fantastic video. I too share your enthusiasm for the game, but the negatives weigh a bit more to me. I think the QTEs and minigames have made me not want to touch the game again, even though the first time playing it was a 10/10 generational masterpiece. Oh well 3 playthroughs were enough, no game can have infinite replayability like DMC3 and DMC5. Also if you haven't, you should check out God Hand. I think you'll really enjoy it.

I couldn't agree more, it's one of those games where if they took out the QTEs and the minigames, you're talking about a flawless game (close enough). Although yeah, it really is a game that everyone can enjoy once, and maybe twice like me. I tried that third playthrhough on infinite climax but I couldn't, I just felt like I was taking too long to perform each section perfectly and got bored haha. I do love Hard difficulty though! I think all three of those, DMC3/5 and God Hand are games I'd love to check out, especially DMC. As for God Hand, I'm on the fence about reviewing games with emulators. Mostly for legal reasons at this point haha. But I might look at them myself for fun. Thank you again for watching another video, maaaan I appreciate it, and your kind words as well! Thank you!

@@reallylatereviews Male equivalent of Bayonetta... I think there is a protagonist from 2023 in an action-oriented game who can, on certain points, fit the bill. His name is Pseudo and he's from Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. Immaculate and unique hair, uncannily long limbs, great martial prowess, witty sass and wisdom alike with a "get out there to get things done" attitude despite past pains, comes to be good with a kid, hard and sometimes extravagant finishers on enemies. I'm partially kidding on this-- Pseudo does have these traits but also notable differences. Clash is a beast of its own, difficult to describe. More like a 3D adventure fighter/beat-em-up with slight RPG elements. And aspects that have reminded one of God Hand, mainly by way of finding different martial arts styles and a few individual attacks to assign to Pseudo. All stances have: - A combo string - A charge attack - A run attack - A jump attack - And an attack from a dodge. What's cool here is that for every direction, each dodge attack is different. Forwards, sideways and backwards dodge attacks. All Stances have their own animation moveset. There's also a mechanic where if you input a new non-combo string attack or move the *moment* your previous attack lands, then that new attack/move comes out immediately instead of waiting for the animation to finish. Hardly any magic, the setting is still oddly grounded. Clash: AoC is a game that I can very warmly recommend. It's a prequel to the Zeno Clash series (2009 and 2013 for ZC1 and 2) and thus set in a strange land with even weirder creatures. Influences range from lesser known prehistoric animals to medieval monster art, like the Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel or the works of Hieronymus Bosch. There's hardly a central unifying culture, people just seem to slap what they think is neat onto themselves. Insofar as we can call the Zenos "people"-- they come in so many different colors, shapes and sizes that there's no real starting with denoting species and subspecies. Oh, and the *fupping music and atmosphere* are fantastic. Just have a listen to the second or third song in the OST, those being The Boy Calls and Pseudo's Theme, and you will get a feel of what Zenozoik may have to offer. This reply is to a comment of a year old-- will try to leave another new comment after this one.

Considering the cost of PC components, I don't understand PC gamers who say they don't want consoles because they're expensive? You're missing out on a lot of great games. Skip one graphics card upgrade and you can buy a Switch. Sadly, chances of Bayonetta 2 & 3 coming to PC are near zero as Nintendo owns those games.

I mean, you can do many things with a powerful PC aside from gaming. Like photo editing, video editing, rendering 3d models (very much requires a beefy PC anyway), type your documents in it, serve as server for your files, etc. PC's main argument is for the amount of money spent on it you can get more functions out of it and being modular you can update the parts thus making it futureproof. Even if it's obsolete it still has its functions like being a server. You can't do much with a console outside gaming (aside from the Steam Deck)...

Both of these comments are right. I miss lots of games. But my PC does so much more. The truth is I work more than I game, and I've upgraded my GPU less frequently than new consoles are announced because the fact is; ya don't really need a beast graphics card to run Rimworld. It isn't that consoles are more expensive, it's that it mostly isn't worth the expense for me. BananaCake I'm bummed it'll never come to PC because I am old and can't use a controller to save my life rofl! You are both right. PC gaming is expensive. And yeah TheOtherOhlourdesPadua, futureproofing and planning negates that. I've owned 4 PCs in my life. I would have owned 5 Playstations, 4 Xboxs and countless Nintendo consoles by now. And I couldn't write my throwaway pulp novel on any of them. Also modding. Maaaaan I gotta have my mods. And thank you both for taking the time to comment, and watch, and I hope ya know both PC gamers and console gamers are always gonna poke fun at each other but we all in the same boat and love games. I worry about letting that bleed into my videos, but it's part of what I love so I'll allow it :P Aw that is awesome though, I envy you to be able to use a controller. I can just about play pokemon rofl, that's it!
