Great video. Kudos for the effort in making it all on the base game with no mods. I know it's a lot harder to find combo material enemies in this game, or having to deal with the weak training dummy.

Thanks! Yeah, the training options in this game aren't the best but they are a step up from Bayo 2 at least. For my next video I will definitely be using modded enemies, but will pretend they somewhat have normal HP so that the combo's still last 15-20 seconds max.

You make it look easy. Ugh here I was feeling proud I am able to dodge offset and Panther offset etc, but I still struggle with tech like this. My combos are rather basic. It's probably due to the fact I love using the default weapons like Scarborough fair, love is blue, and colour my world. You can't really do complicated combos with those weapons. Unless you have a vid for those weapons?

Hey can you switch weapons during a dodge offset and continue the same string with the new weapon like you could in MGRR and Astral Chain? If so, could you also do this in Bayo 1? (With MGRR, the lack of real-time weapon switching means that you don't switch during the dodge, you switch and then dodge after you close the menu)
@Daedron12
@Daedron12 2 жыл бұрын
Weapon switching will always reset your combo string unfortunately. I think it would have been cool to have weapon switch offset, maybe in Bayo 4!

It's nice that the core combat fixes all of the main issues I had with Bayo 2. I wish the surrounding game wasn't just so unbelievably bad that by the end I think I prefer Bayo 2 by a long shot, something I didn't expect in a million years. Cool combos though.
@Daedron12

I assume you're talking about the plethora of mini-game sections? (and probably Viola's chapters...) Story wise it's also pretty ehhhhh, but I skip all of it after the first playthrough anyway so it's whatever. The core combat is good enough for me that I can look past the mini-games. Thankfully, I like the majority of these sections, and if I really don't feel like doing them I can just go back to chapter select and select a different checkpoint.

@pukerat7562
@pukerat7562 2 жыл бұрын
@@Daedron12 It's not just the endless, terrible minigame sections, and how much Viola sucks both as a character and to play as. It really is virtually everything else. I can't get my thoughts out about this game without ranting so I'm sorry in advance. In no particular order: -The story is terrible to such a degree that I didn't think the story in a character action game could piss me off this much. It largely feels unrelated to the stories and settings of prior games. Multiverse stories are already so trite at this point, and this one does nothing to address the inherent problems with these kinds of stories (nothing feels like it has any context or matters). It spends about ten hours just kind of stagnating and going nowhere in particular, before having a terrible final fight with some bald guy who I honestly could not begin to tell you what he wants or why or what he's even doing. Most of the cast spends nearly the entire game isolated and talking to themselves, so I don't even get the fun character interactions I love so much. Luka is a werewolf, I don't know why. The game ends by killing off Bayonetta (and Jeanne) and replacing her with an unlikable Scrappy Doo. Having bad, nonsensical stories isn't out of the ordinary for this series, but they're typically filled with fun interactions between characters that I love; and satisfying, hype moments. This game has none of that, and then caps off by taking a dump on all of my favorite characters. -The soft lock on is far too aggressive. You literally cannot attack in a direction away from an enemy. It doesn't matter if they're off screen, behind you, and 100 feet away. Bayonetta will do a 180 and start attacking behind her towards an enemy she can't even reach. It makes fights feel less responsive because sometimes you'll start auto-targeting the wrong enemy. The could be somewhat remedied with the hard lock on, but... -The hard lock on is bad. It pulls the camera in way too close. It's on a button that's awkward to press mid combat, made worse by it being a toggle. I never used it just because it's so inconvenient to use. -Charge attacks don't carry across dodge/block offset. This makes some weapons feel needlessly terrible to use, and really limits what you can do with them. -You can't maintain attack strings across weapon switching. -Viola. Everything about her. Her personality. Her ugly design. Her unfun, limited moveset. Her role in the story. What she represents for the series going forward. -The camera is one of the worst ones I've seen in a game like this. It is consistently way too close for how most of these verses are designed. It likes to zoom in and angle itself directly behind Bayonetta half the time. Sometimes it tries to show combat from a side angle, so it starts constantly spinning back and forth as you fight, smashing into walls. -The readability during combat is generally terrible. The game loves to fill fights with giant enemies that are larger than the entire screen and clipping through the camera every time they attack, literally turning invisible. Your own demons are often directly in the way of the camera, so you can't even see enemies. Some telegraphs on enemy attacks aren't particularly clear. A lot of attacks in the game are also very busy looking. Combine all of this with the spotty framerate, and you have a lot of fights just becoming unreadable clusterfucks of polygons and particle effects. - Enemy telegraphs aren't very good. Audio cues are often either too quiet, aren't particularly distinct between melee and ranged, or nonexistent. I'm not sure if enemies even respect the rule of not attacking you from off screen. Some telegraphs look too similar to the enemy just moving around. Some telegraphs it's unclear when it's going to hit you, often activating the hurtbox during what feels like is still the windup animation. -Fighting giant enemies isn't very fun, and they're in almost *every* fight. There's just not much you can do with them in terms of setting up and executing stylish combos. You kind of just have to whale on them until they're gone. Combine this with the camera and readability issues, and it becomes an utter slog to get through most fights. -Homunculi are boring enemies. They don't attack in interesting or fun ways, and their designs all run together. -Demon Slave often feels like it adds nothing to the game beyond empty spectacle. Controlling the demons feels slow and clunky, and there's too much of a disconnect between button presses and the demons executing moves for it to feel satisfying. Even just queueing up moves as you attack enemies, isn't particularly fun. Using this mechanic feels more like a necessary obligation for dealing with giant enemies, than it does a fun mechanic to actually engage with. Even though I think the core combat in this game is better than what was in 2, I think the inclusion of Demon Slave was more disastrous for this game than Umbran Climax was for Bayo 2. They had to turn every environment into a giant desolate wasteland and fill every fight with giant enemies that aren't fun to fight in order to justify this mechanic that isn't even very fun to use in the first place. -The game grades time way too harshly. This was a problem in Bayonetta 2, as well, but it mattered less there because there was basically nothing you could do with the combat in that game besides mindlessly dodge and button mash. Now that we have combat you can do combos with again, it's very frustrating that they want you to end fights in only 30-40 seconds in order to get a platinum on time. -The art direction blows. Every environment is incredibly drab and devoid of any memorable architecture or interesting visual flourishes. There is no sense of place or context to anywhere in the game (partially an issue with how its written). It just does not feel like you're inhabiting the world of Bayonetta. Just a lot of flavorless destroyed cityscapes. This carries over to the enemy design as well. They're just a bunch of boring gel monsters that all blend together and have no personality or distinction. They lost the art director of the first two games, and it really shows. This doesn't look like a Bayonetta game. -The music is also very boring. The only memorable or distinct songs are all ones that are returning from prior games. Most of the soundtrack just does not have the energy that the series in known for. The OST doesn't sound like Bayonetta, and it's very obvious that they didn't have the same composers as prior games. -The game effectively has $60 DLC to unlock the guns from Bayo 1 and 2. So while I do agree that the core combat here is much better than what was on offer in 2, I think everything else here is just *so* much worse. I also still don't think the combat is as fun as Bayo 1's. I know I wrote just a giant brick of text here, but this game disappointed me so much and I really just wanted to get my thoughts out about it.
