I was looking for sunscreen but somehow I happened to click here. This made my day, honestly! Social media had made me compared myself to too many influencers and had left me feeling insecurities, low self-esteem, and depression. I don't who I am anymore until this video. I like me, I love myself, and I know I don't need to change myself to please others. I am beautiful, kind and humble. Young and free! I should do what I feel is truly ME! I dont need no Kylie lip injections, bella hadid extended cat eye, kim kardashian fake butt and curves, etc, etc. I should eat healthy, workout and stay healthy. Appreciate myself and love myself more than I ever did. I wish you all happiness and love within yourself. Never compare yourself to those who don't even love themselves. Always remember you're BEAUTIFUL ❤

I’m so glad you found this video. And you’ve spoken much wisdom. Be yourself as there’s nobody like you and there’s only one you. And don’t care what others think of you. It’s our souls that are the most important thing. God bless you. 💕

“Enjoy your body, use it every way you can, don’t be afraid of it or what other people think of it, is the greatest instrument you’ll ever own.” Sounds like an advice to follow to a fault and might as well milk yourself to the end of your career. Shortening it by repetitive lose of essence.

This song came out when I was 12. My dad told me to listen to it. At the time, as kid's do, I didn't get it and thought it was dumb. Well, I'm 35 now, 40 is around the corner. My parents passed away, my knees are shot out, I'm watching my idols grow old, or pass away as well. I hear this song and really wish I listened to it and let it sink in. Now I get it. And unfortunately it's a little bit late. If you're a kid and listening, please be good to your folk's. Mine passed away before they could ever see me create my own life. Or meet my wife. Or their grandkids. Just, listen to this song verbatim. Word for word. Don't just hear it. Listen to it. Because one day, you're 13 and think it's silly, and when you wake up the next day, your folks are gone, your body is hurting, and when you look around your friends are gone, and your world is something you never thought or planned it to be. My life isn't bad, far from it. It's just surreal to watch your heros pass on, or get old, watching your own kid's grow old and have kid's. Then, it clicks and you'll hear this and just start to cry. Mom and Dad, I miss you both with every fiber of my being. Save me a comfy cloud up there. See you when I get there.

Please never take this video down. It’s a family favourite and means the world to us. So much so that when my sister sadly passed at 22 years old, we played this song at her funeral. We still cry every time we hear it years down the line, but we never skip it. Spotify have since removed the original and updated it so it’s spoken by someone else, and it breaks our heart we can’t listen to the original on the platform anymore. Please never take this video down, for the memory of my sister

Literally, every word of this song is the truth. I think of this line all the time - it has turned out to be the most accurate or applicable: “The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind. When my Dad passed away, I'd listen to this song on my headphones at night with the lights off. I'd just stare at the red standby light on my TV and get lost in the thought it was my Dad giving me advice. Many nights I'd lay there crying thinking I'd never come to terms with the fact I'd never see him again. It's amazing how music can heal the pain of losing a loved one. 7 years have passed, I can now listen to this song with a smile and think about how much of an inspiration he was to me 🦸‍♂️

Youth has people you know, the older you get, the less people shall be around, after ten years of leaving school, no one is still in contact with you, hilarious, as you are the only one that kept touch, college and university friends are still around, marriage for men is a friendship killer, wife does not like the husband's friends, seldom they do, but its rare,

Same. 3 of my best friends died, 1 dying from liver failure and 1 addicted to hardcore drugs (basically any day kind of thing). Small town, that's why I have more than "one best friend" we all hung out every single day growing up. 23 years together before we all got hung up on different problems and moved away. Everything feels so alone now even though I'd made other friends (never on the same kind of level as they were). A very empty sad feeling, it feels like a part of me has gone with them.

No but I had to revisit this song today. I just turned 61 and am dependent on opioids, lost my spouse of 21 years to leukemia in June who was also dependent on opioids. We both were so close to be done with it, new beginnings and a new future that will never be realized. I am so full of anger, resentment, grief, sadness, regret, shame, guilt...I feel useless, worthless and believe my husband should still be here not me, that he is the lucky one 😔 I imagine in time these feelings will lessen as time goes on. We did not wake up one day and choose to be addicts, we both have valid reasons for being on the opioids but got caught up in a nightmare we couldn't escape but so close. I know who I am, the good, the bad, the ugly...but I know my soul, I knew my husband's soul. I guess I'm punishing myself over things I had no control over. I cannot seem to grieve until I can get over all the other emotions swirling in my head. I can only move forward, baby step by baby step. This song reminds me that's it's OK to not be perfect, that there are lessons are to be learned and to reflect on positive rather than negative, that it's OK to ask for help and that there are people you can trust. Don't know how to really explain it but this song makes me reflect on my life

It means that in the race of life you will sometimes be ahead and sometimes be behind others. But the truth of the matter is that the fight you're fighting is with your own self. Your ability to be yourself because if you're not yourself it's only yourself that you are hurting. At least that's my interpretation sorry to get all deep haha

T if you take into account what they said about jealousy before, i think what they really mean is that despite one’s instinct to compare one’s life and indulge in envy, in the end, that jealousy means nothing. no one is really keeping score on life, and it takes until death for some people to realize, hence, you don’t realize until the end that the race is only with yourself. essentially: vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

@@SawyerFools but still a great line because it’s so true. I grew up with a variation to this line (and the ‘support yourself don’t expect others to support you’). And when my life suddenly without a warning turned upside down in a few seconds aged 39 due to a stroke, this ‘song’ proved to be spot on. My siblings sticked by me. The precieus few friends remained close. The social security benefits for my not so cool job as a teacher kept my little family afloat. Half choice (job and paying for insurance) half chance (siblings, friends). My face is wrinkle free at 42 because I used the damn sunscreen every day since the age of 19 (when this song was a hit). My knees are still okay although my left side of my body has a life of its own now. Your body truly is the greatest instrument you’ll ever own. I just found out early in life. The half chance. Don’t be scared, just enjoy it while you can.

I’m 20 now. It is crazy to me how fast this year has past by. But I’m in a really good state of my life in which I enjoy every day and try to smile as much as possible. In the past year I learned a lot abt gratitude. I’m so happy that everyone in my close circle is healthy including myself everyday I have food on my plate and I can sleep in a warm save house. Another thing I’ve learned is that worrying abt the future is so useless. I have to live in this moment, day by day and enjoy the amazing life I have because I have so much that a lot of people don’t have. In the upcoming years I hope everyone I love the most will be fine ofcourse. But I’ll also hope to find the love of my life. Someone that I can laugh with but also cry. Someone who is loving me unconditionally. If I read this in the future and there is something horrible happening please know everything is going to fine. At the end of the day everything will fall on its place and I’m gonna be happy again. Don’t stress to much abt things you can’t control. Bye bye till next year 👋 ❤️

In 1999 when I heard this song for the first time, I was 16 years old, I have now hit 40. I listened very carefully to each and every word he said in the lyrics, and I believed back then that I understood every word he said, I even told myself, I will always wear sunscreen, enjoy my youth and see the world, and I did, oh boy I truly did. Sitting here listening to this song again, it just hits me different, because this message is exactly what I would tell the youth today, now I have grey hairs, fat belly, hurting knees, bald patch on my crown I understand what he was trying to explain to me when I was 16. He was trying to make me aware of how presseus my youth was, he was trying to make me understand how fast it slips away and how soon things will change, but for someone who has the whole world ahead of him, it is not possible to see, hear or understand what waits ahead. This moment for me is really extraordinary, because I clearly remember the song, and clearly remember that I tried my best to do as he said. Growing older is such a strange experience, but all in all, what I understand now is that I have to be present in every moment of my life, because tomorrow the youth of today is gone..

Baz Luhrman's "Romeo + Juliet" meant (and still means) alot to me when it came out back in the mid 90s. Because of the way he tells stories and puts them into pictures, the music he picked etc. I remember how I went to the cinema and it did something great inside of me, and so does this very video now. I still don't understand the power and beauty of my youth... my youth was scarred, darkened and lost before it began. I'm 40 and finally fully diagnosed, and more importantly, recognised as chronically ill now after 20 years of struggle alone... one half genetics, one half the result of the power of abuse and manipulation that people had over me for so long, and that I withstood even while seeing myself slowly crumble because I believed in family or friendship or the greater good so, so much. I still don't know what to do with my life, not much tbh... it's about done in terms of expectation and opportunity... I've spent my life rattling around like a snail in a watering can, with PTSD and accumulating ills, wondering wtf? and why?... But y'know, I'm good... better than dead, less than lauded, loved or desired, and with enough of my wits left to see the truth in the 'difference is like dark and daylight' regarding our perceptions between then and now, and enough of my sense of humour left to laugh as much as I cry. It's been the hardest road but a very interesting and engaging one... and I'd do it again, even knowing how it all works out.

@@oisindoyle8985 I've got to tell you that this piece of advice here seems simple to apply but it actually has some recomendations that aren't as easy as one might think. Currently, I'm struggling more with the part where it says: "remember compliments you receive, forget the insults" this one is so difficult that even the author wanted us to tell her how to do it😅 There have been other advices that I have applied to my life and they have been really beneficial for my mental health, like "enjoy the power and beauty of your youth" that's something I'm trying to be aware of everyday, trying to enjoy the process I'm going through in these youth years of mine. That alongside with the one that comes next: "don't worry about the future" and the other that is related as well: "don't worry if you don't know what you want to do with your life", those three together have been crucial for me in order to overcome (or well, at least trying to*) my regular anxiety and hopelessness when it comes to thinking about my prospects :/ This song is now like my "start-of-the-week-mantra", and it had really helped improve in several things I've struggled with but there are others that I'm still trying to implement without much success😅 Anyway, 100% Recommended, I don't regret any extra minute spent in rewinding this masterpiece👌🏻

Andrei advice is passed knowledge, and passing of knowledge can be beneficial to ones own experience and avoiding the issues that are known to be problematic. It's sort of fine tuning the experiences to enriching your life opposed to repeating someone else's mistakes. It's the beauty of advice when you're a youth.

I heard this song around the age of 13. The one line that really stuck with me was “don’t read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.” I was a boy so wasn’t into beauty magazines, but it always stuck with me to not overvalue looks. See what’s deeper in a person’s heart. I know that’s not exactly what the line says, but that’s what teenage me took from it. I come back to this line all the time.

If you listen to this song when you are young, you think you understand it's message but you don't. When you listen to it later in life, you realize it is impossible to fully understand until you have experience. The benefit time also helps you appreciate the message. All you can really do is try to follow this advice and hope for the best. Good luck everyone❤

While watching and listening to this song it catches my mind and soul. Through this song, I’ve realized something about my life; situations, and decisions, hearing those words makes me a bit emotional. Those words are captivating the attention of the listeners and whoever hears this song will help you realize something. The words or lyrics that captivate me are “Don’t worry about the future” and “Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what to do with your life.” These phrases have a really big impact on me. The first phrase makes me conscious about my decisions in life, I worry a lot about my future; about what will be the person I am going to be when I graduate from college, and what life I’ll be having in the future. I worry a lot, to the extent that I don’t know what to do and what I want in life anymore. I envy those people who have plans in life, especially my 15-year-old self who has the confidence, courage, plans, and excitement to be in college and be a successful one someday. But now? I don’t have any of those that are stated. However, after hearing this song I’ll try and do my best to strive for more, not worry too much about the future and be a better version of the person I am with better plans.

Hey, 40 here as well, and still pondering about many things. I think that... as long as you have good days where you can smile, it does not matter much if you don't know what to do in life, or what you want to become. What matters is that you live life good, that you treasure your family, friends and even strangers that surrounds you. If you spread positive vibes to your surroundings, people will notice, and everything is great. That is what matters:) I think this tune is... a masterpiece, that will never ever go out on date. Words of wisdom, we all can use to be reminded of now and then. And, I think I will listen to this tune till my final days. Enjoy life peeps, and keep smiling!:)
