ELVIS is an epic, big-screen spectacle from Warner Bros. Pictures and visionary, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann that explores the life and music of Elvis Presley, starring Austin Butler and Oscar winner Tom Hanks.
A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis’s (Butler) story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).
Starring alongside Butler and Hanks, award-winning theatre actress Helen Thomson (“Top of the Lake: China Girl,” “Rake”) plays Elvis’s mother, Gladys, Richard Roxburgh (“Moulin Rouge!” “Breath,” “Hacksaw Ridge”) portrays Elvis’s father, Vernon, and DeJonge (“The Visit,” “Stray Dolls”) plays Priscilla. Luke Bracey (“Hacksaw Ridge,” “Point Break”) plays Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Caesar!”) plays Dixie Locke, David Wenham (“The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, “Lion,” “300”) plays Hank Snow, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The High Note”) plays B.B. King, Xavier Samuel (“Adore,” “Love & Friendship,” “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”) plays Scotty Moore, and Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”) plays Jimmie Rodgers Snow.
Also in the cast, Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things,” “The Broken Heart Gallery”) plays TV director Steve Binder, alongside Australian actors Leon Ford (“Gallipoli,” “The Pacific”) as Tom Diskin, Kate Mulvany (“The Great Gatsby,” “Hunters”) as Marion Keisker, Gareth Davies (“Peter Rabbit,” “Hunters”) as Bones Howe, Charles Grounds (“Crazy Rich Asians,” “Camp”) as Billy Smith, Josh McConville (“Fantasy Island”) as Sam Phillips, and Adam Dunn (“Home and Away”) as Bill Black.
To play additional iconic musical artists in the film, Luhrmann cast singer/songwriter Yola as Sister Rosetta Tharpe, model Alton Mason as Little Richard, Austin, Texas native Gary Clark Jr. as Arthur Crudup, and artist Shonka Dukureh as Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton.
Oscar nominee Luhrmann (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”) directed from a screenplay by Baz Luhrmann & Sam Bromell and Baz Luhrmann & Craig Pearce and Jeremy Doner, story by Baz Luhrmann and Jeremy Doner. The film’s producers are Luhrmann, Oscar winner Catherine Martin (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”), Gail Berman, Patrick McCormick and Schuyler Weiss. Toby Emmerich, Courtenay Valenti and Kevin McCormick executive produced.
The director’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Mandy Walker (“Mulan,” “Australia”), Oscar-winning production designer and costume designer Catherine Martin (“The Great Gatsby,” “Moulin Rouge!”), production designer Karen Murphy (“A Star Is Born”), editors Matt Villa (“The Great Gatsby,” “Australia”) and Jonathan Redmond (“The Great Gatsby”), Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor Thomas Wood (“Mad Max: Fury Road”), music supervisor Anton Monsted (“Australia,” “Moulin Rouge!”) and composer Elliott Wheeler (“The Get Down”).
Principal photography on “Elvis” took place in Queensland, Australia with the support of the Queensland Government, Screen Queensland, and the Australian Government’s Producer Offset program.
A Warner Bros. Pictures Presentation, A Bazmark Production, A Jackal Group Production, A Baz Luhrmann Film, “Elvis” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is set to release in theaters in North America on June 24, 2022, and internationally beginning 22 June 2022.

@@youngtruth9563 Yeah, the movie was just boring and absolute trash. Made a *HUGE* mistake using Col. Tom Parker as the narrator, and making him such a massive part of the film. *Tom Hanks performance was just a total embarrassment.* Worst performance that I've seen in years, by anyone. However, Austin Butler was just mesmerising. I wasn't expecting much from him, but he was truly wonderful in such a difficult role. He deserved a far better film to showcase his performance. Also, using modern artists to "re-imagine" The King is ridiculous. Elvis's music stands on its own. As it always has. I knew it was going to be a disaster to use such a two-bit director to bring Elvis to screen. He can GET LOST.

I am 81 years old and I got Elvis autograph when I was 15 years old in Tampa, Fl and Austin Butler's performance of Elvis Presley was absolutely outstanding!!!!! When I met Elvis he was the fill in for the intermission after Minnie Pearl and her group performed and when I went afterwards to get his autograph we had a rather lengthy chat. What an absolute gentleman he was. I am sure that his Mamma is truly proud of him as she should be. Austin, I am sure you will never see this but you have done an outstanding job portraying Elvis, the King, and he always will be forever. You are an outstanding man and so was he. There is a rare gift among actors, that when they are so deeply ingrained in the role you no longer see the actor, you just see the character. There were moments watching that I felt like I saw Elvis and not someone recreating Elvis. Truly great actors are chameleons that shape shift to meet the challenge and he will be a truly great actor. Even if he doesn't do this level again, he will be remembered as the only actor that ever played Elvis successfully.

Elvis' legacy has been given a tremendous boost, and will help young people understand that he was a force of good for American music and humanity.

@depper
@depper 2 жыл бұрын
@@possiblymaybe6711 NOT TRUE. That's f'd up. Elvis was a pioneer. One of the architects of Rock and Roll. He did not steal black music. ZERO of his works were stolen. Elvis CREDITED EVERY SONGWRITER on EVERY SONG, on EACH ALBUM. EVERY SONG WRITER GOT PAID, and some paid really well (Little Richard. Otis Blackwell. Chuck Berry.) Yes -- Including the black song writers that sold their music to Elvis to perform. The 1950s was an era of music and culture experimentation and many thousands of hours jamming melding of R&B, Gospel and Rockabilly. Elvis was a genuine part of this era and new sound. He was a pioneer. Not first. But still a pioneer. In that era, it was an age of legendary song writers. Elvis performed ~700 songs. He was a musician who played great rhythm guitar and piano and boy could HE SING. He possessed a legendary instantly recognizable rich baritone. Legends such as Al Green, BB King, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr, Chuck Berry and Little Richard roamed the Earth at the same time Elvis did and they all knew Elvis, loved him, and praised him very highly. Elvis merged black and white music to help form Rock and Roll jolted a youth movement and civil rights movement to the forefront so both could succeed. It’s safe to say you know nothing about Elvis. Maybe you can give his story a chance.

If there was a way to explain, and to your point Seewhatis, there are thousands of imitators out there, Baz cast an actor, one that already had pedigree, as an actor, and created a movie, detailing Presleys influences in music, and dug deep into an era where people viewed things a certain way, when this artist came around he became the true rebel that no one had ever seen before. An artist that would change the face of music, and would become a veritable influence to future musical artists. The work of Baz to cast Austin for the role and not an imitator or tribute artist, and tell that story the way he did is totally brilliant, and worthy of multiple oscars

Any future, or even current, Elvis impersonators will FOREVER be compared to Austin the Magnificent, and to their detriment. He doesn't impersonate; Austin channels Elvis. He has the stage looks, voice, and moves (yowzah!!), but Austin also shows the personal side: the sadness at so many losses; the secret thoughts of achieving greatness and then deciding he won't be remembered; his physical fury at Col. Parker in the scene with Vernon, and his cold eyes staring through Parker from the stage; his initial happiness with 'Cilla; and so on. Austin Butler shows us every emotion, something Rami can only dream of doing. Austin's first leading role should get him his first Academy Award.

I have to say I was shocked to learn that Austin did the singing. Incredible. Elvis had a distinct voice, very powerful, soulful and Austin captured it. I know there are impersonators out there but to perform such a wide range is amazing. If reincarnation is possible, well who knows. Elvis may have been reborn.
