About Elvis:
Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

@@WINGGULLSEAGULL Yep. Rock n Roll was essentially an African American thing, so obviously, this scared White America shitless when Elvis turned it into a mainstream thing. People say he stole black culture, when in my eyes he just showcased his love for it. That’s why I feel that Elvis is a very underrated icon when it comes to the Black community.

This is my absolute favorite scene of the entire movie. It really expresses Elvis in all of his glory. The power he had on stage, the command he had over an audience, and the effect he had on his fans plus how truly controversial he was and the way it was the spark that ignited a cultural revolution. It also used the song perfectly for Elvis being caught in the controversy, the way he didn't ask for it but wasn't going to back off, and in that moment he "picks" his fans, it really is perfect for a visual demonstration how the people wanting to start a "rumble" with Elvis had better not be alone because he has all of his fans who are not going to let you take him easily. So Baz did a perfect job with this scene, song, and the story of Elvis.

This scene is spectacular, but there is one scene from the movie that really centered the whole movie, that gave it it's full weight. When Col. Parker is selling his act to the Vegas men. It completely unraveled the mystery of Elvis's downfall. Perfectly. It traumatized me as much as a real life event. Baz killed this movie, I have not been this affected by a movie since I was 18 and saw Apocalypse Now in Manhattan.

Elvis did that, however it really was black moves he was incorporating, I like the way the movie seemlessly shows us Elvis's childhood and helps us really understand the influences he took to and implemented. I really love how Austin took on this scene. The irony of the lyrics cause Elvis wasn’t evil at all just loved music so much but the media kept haunting him like evil, and the face Austin makes while singing ‘Evil,’ is so emotional powerful and shaking as he fights to be himself and let it out what he’s gone thru. Thank you for sharing such an amazing performance Austin, and Elvis for changing the world!!

Beautifully said! They couldn’t handle how much talent he had. The way he sings and moves is so beautiful that this world… we don’t know how to handle it. For the more religious among us, we might think we can’t enjoy that kind of beauty because we call it ‘temptation’. But that’s not it. Elvis moved like how he did when he was slain in the Spirit at church. Austin is a Christian too but he also got to have that gospel tent type of experience when he went to church with Baz in Nashville to get in touch with Elvis’ spirit. That drove a lot of the emotional core of his portrayal. I’ve heard him say “if I wasn’t feeling that feeling I had at that church, I knew I was off”. And that kept him going for 18 months?! Absolutely incredible.
