BB always sounds like the guitar is an extension of his voice - it sings. Mayer sounds amazing. He plays guitar like a young man trying to show his talent with energy where as BB embodies the notion of saying it once and saying it easy. If i were to listen to one artist a long time, it would be BB. Your spirit connects to his story telling musically!

John Mayer is one of the most underappreciated underrated guitarists out there. He is a master of the blues yet takes a lot of heat and criticism because of his "your body is a wonderland" shit

As a musician, i consider myself lucky to have once, maybe twice in my life, met a player with whom i was totally connected...like there was no audience, no amps, no paycheque at the end of the night, just someone who was 100% in sync, like they could see into the future and KNOW what i was gonna play. Mayer and King have the same connection, a beautiful mixture of the experienced old hand who's seen all the tricks, and the young prodigy with reverence for the master. It's amazing to watch...

John Mayer and B.B. King are both great blues guitarists. I love listening to them both. John delivers more energy, but B.B. King is just an old soul up there. He's so passionate about what he is doing. He doesn't think about what he is doing.... He just does it. That's what the blues are all about.

I was trying to listen to some B.B. yesterday after a long day but my girlfriend wouldn't shut up. So now I'm hiding in a closet from her with headphones watching this video on my laptop in the dark. :) And it's SO worth the inconvenience. Two INCREDIBLE musicians right here. mayer has the fire and speed of youth. B.B has the fire and control of maturity. both are undeniably great players and no one can deny that mayer has 'put in his time' studying the greats. listen to his playing from 5 years ago and is is obvious that he has come a long way in developing his own style. imagine where he will be in 20 years. And we all hope to still see B.B. in 20 years!!

The two sides of the coin. Mayer with all the flash and technique, amazing. BB King with slow sweetness and maturity. His 2 notes equal at least a dozen mayer notes. I love THE KING most. but they are both deserving of honor.

Sure, there are different types of guitars for different sounds, but you can always tell a guitarist is phenomenal when you put ANY guitar in his hands and he sounds just as good. He's not bored, he's just the best Blues player of all time.. the king. His playing needs to match John's a little so that they sound good together. A few times, he smiles at what John's playing.. approval of BB King is huge.

I think BB is just letting Mayer enjoy himself and do what he loves just like he'd expect somebody to do with him , they are both awesome and i'm sure Mayer knows how awesome BB is . He has bloody guts to play at all infront of him and expect him to be impressed , so i am impressed :)

There both incredibly talented. The difference is that BB knows restraint very very very well, and that's a large part of the blues. You can see the talented youth in John and the wisdom in BB. Enjoy.

cant you see BB is leading him on showing him he is being what he is a mentor to the young . He even told John "shut up or I will walk out of here" . John Mayer is an underrated guitarist. He is trying desperately to impress his mentor and BB is just like play the song he is truly all about the music.

Love the tone of BB's Gibson and John can make that his Fender sing here but the tone on his Gibson ES is amazing. As a rule of thumb though, never bring a Fender to a Gibson fight.

I agree with Specer 3728's comment, WHAT???? We need more young blues artists to carry the torch. While not pure blues and not a a newcomer, Robben Ford is a great listen, Coco Montoya, KWS of course and there will hopefully be more showing themselves soon. Greats like BB, Buddy, Hubert, Jimmie V,aughan, Robert Cray are still with us fortunately. We are fortunate to have all these talents with their own style and tone. May the Blues never die.

It's incrediably sad that people won't open their eyes and ears to musicians like Mayer. Here is a guy who can write the most silly little camp fire love songs, to a rather sexy blues song! He can cover Sinatra songs and make it sound beautiful, he can rock out and shred, and he can even stay in the mainstream spotlight whilst doing all that! No there won't ever be any SRV, Jimi, B.B, or Clapton, but someone has to carry on the torch, heck let him be the one! Be open, you'll be like to love it!
