John Mayer plays the way John Mayer plays. He's not overplayin, he's not playin sloppy, he's just like a little child that dreamed his whole life of playing next to this legend. Instead of analyzing this performance and nitpicking it for mistakes that aren't even mistakes, just sit back and try to enjoy musical improvisation for once in your life. Blues is all about the blue notes. The ones you call "sloppy". The thing I hate most about negative reviews is that they never seem to come from anyone who has ever done something like this in their entire lives. Oh and btw, happy birthday to the king.

I'm a small town Alaskan guy who discovered something that spoke to me in the blues. I walked into a little club in Little Rock while it was having a blues jam and it transported me. Decades later I watched BB King perform in Anchorage. This concert with John ties those decades together and their music soothes me.

It's fascinating to see two very different career stages, years of life and levels of experience through their playing so clearly. Mayer is so eager, all over the place in the best way possible, full of energy. And the King has done this for so long that he doesn't even "play" anymore, he just sits back and lets the guitar do its thing. That said, two unvelievable fucking musicians. Amazing.

I got to see BB live back in 2004 and he’s was such a humble guy just a regular man. As soon as the concert started he was sitting on a metal folding chair at the edge of the stage and he said “Turn on these lights! I want to see who I’m talking to!” And I was in the third row center I could have reached out and touched him! He played his Lucille and he told lots of very funny personal stories. Most of them were about his ex wives LOL 😂 it was soooo SPECIAL getting to see him live. What a great guy he was and we MISS you BB ♥️

Its meant to b heard live too. Eating, drinking, dancing, while listening to a bluesman hit ur soul all night long. Its the only type of music I can think of that a live voice and live guitar is better than a fixed studio sound. They can tweak it in the studio to make it sound as clear and on rhythm as much as they want. It won't b better than hearing a grown man put all his pain in the mic during a live audience. Never

I’m a huge blues fan! It calms the soul! I never really though much of John Mayer but watching this video multiple times now I can say I have respect. The beautiful thing about the blues not one artist plays the same! Mayer played his souls out! I noticed, John Mayar when he was just 15 y/o teaching himself the guitar/blues. Every day, after school, hed hide out in his bedroom, practicing. I knew when he had gigs with local pubs, BEFORE he was of age to drink alcohol he hit it big. Not only that, he reminded me of a young Bob Dylan, BEFORE the music industry labeled him as such. Only when musicians stop debating who is a better musician, will they be able to become better musicians. Music isn't something that's measurable. It's a story made into sound. It's emotion you can broadcast to thousands from a speaker. Music is pure, and it's easily one of the most magical things in existence.

The King has such a relaxed way about him. But such a big sound. Smooth like velvet.

I like everyone loves this duo and this is a soulful melody. But I just can't stop wondering, how did the drummer keep up with these 2 and their random notes. Amazing skills and kudos to the drummer

normally you follow the drummer, not the other way around

@@METTI1986LA in this setting, yes. At a rock gig, sadly the singer sets the tempo, as ridiculous as that is.

Everyone that's had the pleasure of viewing this performance witnessed history. This was the moment the old guard gracefully passed the torch and walked away, crowning a new "king." It is magical and will be talked about for decades to come. This is the most beautiful exchange I've ever witnessed between to legends.
