BBC 2 Breakdown (25 June 2018) During Eastbourne Tennis

It's so weird to think that the footage of the 2 ident we're seeing in that breakdown slide (the Steam ident!) was recorded years ago... it was part of the 1991 rebrand in fact. So the footage is decades old and yet here it is as part of footage from a few months ago. It's amazing and weird.

I wouldn't say an 'anomaly' because given that the 90s idents are being used again now (far as i'm aware!) it should be there... so it's not really out of the ordinary. It's just strange to think that when they were shooting all those pieces of footage at the start of the 90s that they would still be used and seen on screen as we approach the end of the new 10s. I'm not sure that's all that common, so you're right that it could be termed an anomaly from that angle. Television continuity is so interesting... and that we're seeing a snippet of a moment from decades earlier. It's like a time machine!

Anomaly was probably the wrong choice of word. But you are right, it's very interesting. Just goes to show how iconic the Lambie-Nairn 2s are/were.

PredictedCyborg I get what you mean, it’s not very common to see 1990s idents still airing in the current decade, given how long they’ve been aired for. They’ve finally been retired now, but I wonder if one may slip though if they have forgotten to update the breakdown slides...

I like the way the announcer kept apologising for the breakdown in the tennis coverage and adding "If that's what you tuned in for.". How many people actually tuned in with the express intent of seeing the 2 logo with a breakdown caption instead of the tennis?
