I love Shilese’s floor routine. It’s dedicated to her dad who was terminally ill and told Shilese before he passed away to move back home to Washington to fulfill her dream of pursuing gymnastics with Olympians. She did just that and it’s beautiful. Her dad would be so proud of her.

Bless her heart - I wish so much she could have made it to Paris, but her body said otherwise. Same with Kayla. Thanks for sharing this info - I'd never heard it before.

Manila Esposito’s beam mount was pure poetry! It’s great to see so many incorporating real mounts onto the beam instead of just getting on it. Brazil was absolutely brilliant here, so wonderful to see them with their first ever team world medal! Same with France getting one after how many decades! Tough to see GB struggle as they did- and a real shame what happened to poor Jessica G just a couple of days later…

I wonder why the commentators failed to mention that the US lost one of their top vault scores, when Roberson got injured right there on the podium during warm up. It meant the US lost tenths from Roberson's start value, and it meant that the team had to contend with changing line ups last minute, and Leane Wong suddenly had to vault, which was not the original plan. All of these factors were pertinent to the final score, and could have effected US confidence. I would think that the commentators would have mentioned those facts when discussing how the US handled pressure, and when they were discussing that the US margin of winning has narrowed.

I guess it depends on who is causing stress to the team as to whether attention will be paid to it.

Changing lineups are not new, even in Tokyo Olympics the US lineup was changed as the competition was going on
@carolynrabbani6469Ай бұрын
@@tugasaku2643 Yes, of course. My point is that losing Roberson's score lowered the US total score because of her higher start value. This plus the chaos caused at the last minute played into the US overall score being closer to the final scores of the next best team final score. The commentators failed to give that context at the end when they were discussing how the US advantage (the margin of win being lower than previous wins) is starting to wane. They implied that the US is losing their advantage/dominance. The US may indeed be losing their advantage compared to past years when they won by 4 or more whole points or they may not be. Regardless though, leaving the Roberson injury out of that discussion/speculation, gives a skewed view.

I have always thought that Christine Still didn’t like Simone Biles. Since 2013, she has always tried to subtly downplay Simone Biles skills. I remember when she so wanted the gymnasts from Romania, Larisa Iordache to beat Simone Biles so bad in 2014. She is always quick to point out Simone’s mistakes but is more likely to only harp on the good in other gymnasts. She does praise Simone Biles, but you can tell it is because she has to.

I generally enjoy listening to the BBC commentators but I totally agree with you here. Christine’s comments were out of line and I must say, unbecoming. She’s better than that. Someone from the GB team needs to tell her she sounds very petty!

Christine is always pretty rude about the Americans. In 2016 she went on about how Aly Raisman's gymnastics weren't aesthetically pleasing, and she didn't like her style at all. Well, Aly won silver in the AA and on FX, so I guess it didn't matter to the judges. Christine is also married to the director of British Gymnastics.

Such a shame about Ukraine. I thought Romania might have been doing better since it's already time for Paris but obviously not, though it's good that they have been building up the team after so many years of nothing since Iordache and Ponor were holding the team together. Germany has some good individuals but sad about the team not qualifying. I do love Canada but they seemed to rely on their older gymnasts so I'm not 100% surprised that the younger team struggled. As it stands, Russian Federation won't be defending their gold so this year if the USA hold their nerve and the GB girls up their game, they could go Gold and Silver respectively. That is wishful thinking on my part as a Brit but I think that there will be a real fight for the silver/bronze in Paris.

This BBC commentator seems to have something against Simone. The minute Simone went on Bars she was completely silent yet for every single performance she can’t seem to stop talking yet the minute she was done and her partner was praising Simone she couldn’t wait to go one about everything that in her eyes that was wrong with the performance yet it was about things that she never mentions about other gymnasts on their bar routines. You can tell she doesn’t like Simone and I don’t know if it’s a race thing or because she knows it’s because with Simone the UK can never win the Gold in any of their competitions with her in the competition…it’s sour grapes but can’t give her her due. Can’t seem to understand she is watching greatest in front of her and getting to live through the decade of one of the greatest gymnasts to ever due the sport to maybe ever do it never to be done again.
