Thank you for uploading this. I was 25 years old when I did the sound dub for this programme for the brilliant producer/director Harold Snoad. My friend John Dunstan was the film editor and we worked on loads of Dick Emery films together and also many other classic BBC comedies. I'm retired now but the memories are still so vivid.

The BEEB had a very short memory for comedy legends who once graced our screens-messrs Emery,Yarwood.. Maybe Dick Emery who sinned by moving to itv. Tho' M & Wise did it yet remained ever popular on Beeb at xmas.?
@anotherpubsinger76697 жыл бұрын
Morecambe and Wise were safe and their abstract comedy did not have any real bite so it fits well for the PC age of today. I guess despite the Two Ronnie's being un PC they were still middle class and had the Oxbridge footlight brigade who chipped into much of their success , so the BBC has also given some of their safer stuff a place on drip repeats . Dick and Mike neither went to Oxbridge or were connected or approved by that establishment mob , both working class lads who made their own way on public approval not sucking the cock of the nobility of this country. A lot of their material was straight out of the music hall mentality and played for straight belly laughs no ambiguity. So I suppose the BBC of today which is more of an elite institution and peopled with the off spring of successful well connected parents does not want to be reminded of time when it produced well made entertainment that was enjoyed by a mainly working class viewership without a PC mandate driving it. BTW BBC today stands for the bollocks broadcasting cooperation.

Durins Bane Dick Emery only moved to ITV for a small number of one-offs and then returned to the BBC. They didn’t drop him or cancel his show, and he was still making the Dick Emery show for the BBC right up until he died in 1982. As to why he isn’t shown on TV now, probably because most of his shows are at least 45 years old. When Dick Emery was at his height in the mid 1970s I don’t recall the BBC showing much comedy material from the 1940s for the same reason - by 1975 we had moved on. Now we’ve moved on again. Well....some of us have anyway.

This type of comedy was so firmly of its time but appreciated by millions then and fondly remembered now .. I think Dick drew on movie characters and variety entertainment from his youth to bring us these lovely stereotypes.....what a mimic

Classic comedy from one of UK's greats. Our teresteral channels should take note of the views of the public. They should repeat such classics if they get as many views as this. New comedies should take note. Such greats of dick Emery, Les Dawson, Larry Grayson,Tommy cooper,Morecambe and wise, the two Ronnie's and Sykes should never be forgotten. R.i.p
