I met Dick Emery over 60 years ago when he was appearing at the Manchester Hippodrome , I was working in the box office .What a very nice man he was…I miss all these fabulous comedians…

Used to watch the Dick Emery Show with my beloved grandad. We would to roar with laughter together. Not sure if I understood what I was laughing at, but seeing my grandad doubled up was enough for me 😂😂😂

Yep, the theme music alone brings back memories of anticipation. It's a pity they haven't brought out a decent set of individual episodes/series on DVD, the same with Dave Allen.

It was so much better back then .There was no political correctness then .One had freedom of speech where as one has not no more .One did not have to put up with everyday talk with gay issues and Black people issues everyday .And we had funny comedy on tv .Now it's more like people talking about there issues everyday all the time and its becoming to much and over bearing on everyday life

Thank you Matt! About 8 years ago I tried to find old clips of his but could only find one 10mins piece. I thought he be pushed way back into the archives gathering dust. Then you popped up, dont know why because this is 5 years ago but glad i did. I shall put YT on and sit with my 94 year old dad and watch it tonight (he's watching Olympics at the mo but thats only because theres a load of rubbish on the other channels, he says!)

I di not know who wrote this but the acting is incredible. The range of characters was mazing and such supporting actors. Loved every minute. Thank you. I am an oldie that appreciates this immensely. I loathe socialists though and I know Dick was one, well an old fashioned one of course. That marriage guidance sketch was so funny that it brought tears to my eyes.

For the time his humour was not overtly misogynistic like for example Benny Hill. His characters were very gentle stereotypes. Clarence as an example did not criticise homosexuality. Rather he was portrayed care free and in an affectionate way. Considering the peer pressure to be overtly offensive he crafted much loved characters that could generally be seen - even today as on the right side of political correctness. Dick Emery was a staunch Socialist who as well as giving vast amounts to charity, organised charitable events with his showbiz friends. He was no angel in his private life I accept.
