It’s sad knowing how much more enthusiastic Wogan was towards the contest in the 1980s and 90s. Contrast his comments regarding 🇷🇸 (“I wish I’d have know what all that was about”) to pre-free language where Wogan would regularly read an excerpt of the song in English to give the audience a fairer hearing.

I feel sorry for those who never got to experience the full joy of Eurovision these years, just because some commentator was obsessing over who gives points to who. Norton on the other hand shows that you _can_ take the contest seriously while still joking about it and point out the flaws. He's done a marvelous job.

I find Wogan comments being result of British sense of humour simply differs from continental Europe (like Krisse/pink lady, Germans, Hugarians commentators find her amusing) and he said it loud. Still find him more intelligent than Graham Norton.

Because Dancing Lasha Tumbai was so amazing & meaningful.When Western European Countries send a joke song it's a display of cultural arrogance, when a Slavic country does it, it's to be celebrated with 200 points. This contest, along with 2008, was why Juries became 50% of the voting. To cancel political-favouritism, cultural-similarity block voting & diaspora voting (yes, it's really cheating if an Ethnic Turk in Germany votes for Turkey)

All you people taking offence to Terry Wogan's commentary just don't get his style of humour. Yes, he can make jokes at the expense of others, but he has no intention to hurt anyone's feelings. He and Graham Norton (and yes, they have completely different styles) really make Eurovision that one bit better.
