I love the countdown music, because it is contemporary, but acknowledges the Beeb's (BBC) history as well. The "beats" in the music are the time hack signals used on HF (high frequency aka "short-wave") Radio. And the pitch goes higher for the final 10 seconds just as it did on the short-wave radio. Before the Internet this was a key way to get real time news around the world.

I have always been a fanatic of BBC News since I was perhaps 14 years old... I remember listening to these half-hour commercial breaks in the early 2000, while I was in Africa and Asia. This amazing music is an "attention-getter" and I would stop doing whatever I was doing to see what was coming. British HIGH TASTE! I loved it and I still love it!

I loved it! I was in Africa and I would come to room in the hotel late (around 10:00pm), and I would turn to BBC News to see what was happening in the world, and then - at the top of the hour -, here came this music...! It truly forced me to run to the TV and begin to watch the news. BBC has always been professional, uncensored, clean, honest and unbiased news at all times.

I used to watch the bbc with my late father as a kid. I remember how we really looked forward to the international news in the aftermath of 9/11 and the wars that followed. Being in India, those days the news coverage wasn't all that good. The countdown still gives me gooseflesh. Thank you, uploader, for putting this up here. You have to understand that although you made a point with a line segments, meaning two points connected with a definite line - there is no use wallowing in despair with regards to the start and the end point.
