Been like that as long as i remember. Anyone who questions Celtics penalty doesn't know the rules. That happens outside the box it's a foul - brings the player down and makes no contact with the ball. How can they even be questioning that? We know why. Also Hatate's claim happens to a Rangers player...that's a penalty. Hatate's claim and County's claims were essentially the same incident and were refereed differently

Also, Neil McCann's logic is completely skewed. The laws that constitute a penalty make absolutely no reference to the desire of the fouled player to have one! Even if Hatate evinced verbally that he didn't want one, the referee if he applies the rules is obliged to award one. More significantly, Japanese players don't demean themselves to insist on something that the ruling authority should award them anyway, so McCann is culturally ignorant too.

I never watch Sportscene but thought I’d give this a whirl. Thompson and McCann in agreement, no problem with Ross County penalty. Thompson suggesting it could have been a red card. Both said Celtic’s award wasnt a penalty although Brown made no contact with Yang and clattered him. Brian Graham fell dutifully into line. Fuck them. Thank fuck I don’t pay my TV licence.

A clear goal scoring opportunity is being one-on-one with the keeper whilst in control of the ball, or an outfield player handling the ball on the line. A crossed ball is NOT a "clear goal scoring opportunity" never has been a red card under any definition of the rules.
