My paternal grandmother was a MacDonald from Cape Breton. Her ancestor Peter MacDonald, left South Uist in 1745 and emigrated to Creignish Rear on the west coast of Cape Breton after arriving on Prince Edward Island. It was with great pleasure that my wife and I visited Cape Breton on our 25th anniversary some 20years ago and explored the ruins of the abandoned settlement. About five years ago we visited England, Wales and Scotland. While we did not make it to the Isles we did get to see Castle Tioram which was the ancestral home of Clanranald of which I belong. One of the highlights of my life. Thanks for bringing that all back.

MacDougall's & MacDonald's are both from the sons of Somhairlidh, otherwise known as Somerled. Two very in-depth books The Sea Kings, and The Kingdom of The Isles, both by R. Andrew McDonald, give the full history. Somhairlidh is the only one to rid and reclaim the whole of Argyll and the Islands from the Vikings who took over. What a progenitor, worthy of total respect.

The project pages say it themselves, "the majority of the Clan is R1b"; that's Celtic dna. So how do you square the fact that the majority of the clan is Celtic but the chiefs are Aryan? This malarkey from the project just does not cut it, "our R1a chiefs’ ancestors first appeared on the Scottish scene around 836AD". So we are suppose to believe that just shortly after the British Isle started to be invaded by marauding Scandinavian Vikings our clan picked a Scandinavian Viking to lead us, lol. Nonsense. And besides if Somairle (his name was not Somerled) was Scandinavian then why did he not have Nordic I1 dna, instead of Aryan R1a dna? I don't believe that fairy tale at all. This chart shows the prominence of R1b Celtic dna in Scotland and not a lot of R1a Aryan dna. www.dnaweekly.com/blog/a-map-of-europe-based-on-haplogroups/

@@michaelmacdonell2986 the clan genetic database is one of the largest and most studied on the planet. You're extremely wrong. The fact that you say "R1A Aryan" which isn't a thing, and that the majority of the clan is R1b(which would be news to thousands of members who have contributed to the Y-database) says all anyone needs to know on this matter. "R1b is Celtics dna" is another huge clue that you're clueless about this subject. Almost all of clan Donald and it's various branching clans are R1a. I'm sure it's upsetting when science proves you wrong. R1A is one of the three primary haplogroups of Scandinavia along with I and N with R1b being less prevalent but still very common. There's no such thing as "Viking" or "Aryan" dna. Aryan is a blanket term covering a large group of Indo-European tribes included in which is both celts and germans.
@michaelmacdonell29863 жыл бұрын
@@DarkRyderWhisky Have you even read the ClanDonald USA dna project pages? This is a direct quote from the project pages speaking of Clan Donald "the majority of the Clan is R1b". I have read dna study pages that have called R1b specifically Celtic dna. The chart that I included in my last post says "R1b: Celtic, Basque, Italic, Frisian, Saxon" "R1a: Slavic, Kurgan, Aryan" "I1: Germanic (Nordic)". I agree there could be R1a Aryan dna within the Scandinavian Vikings, but I1 Nordic is the prominent dna for Scandinavian Vikings. Regarding the project's quote "our R1a chiefs’ ancestors first appeared on the Scottish scene around 836AD", well if you believe that then I have a bridge for sale that you might be interested in, lol.

My God, you would think that if a historian was going to do a piece on Scotland that he might at least get the colour of the flag behind him correct. The Scottish Saltire has a white cross on an azure blue background. Never never navy blue!

Regardless of his motives be them to protect or betray it will always be a crime against family and blood in the end. He sadly was screwed no matter what.

viking is the wrong label,it means going to the ships,good and bad existed in all family groups,the norse who were all over the northern hemisphere and south at one time,are the ancestors of all,they were the picts the celts and others,sadly history was written by those with agendas,they fought with and against the romans too.
