The fleeing nationalists made up less than 10% of Taiwan’s population in 1949. Taiwan was unwillingly dragged into a conflict with the PRC as most of the population had nothing to do with the civil war and were inhabitants long before colonialism.

Taiwan is a beautiful independent and democratic country. If you want to experience the "real China" then I suggest you visit this wonderful island. The writing is traditional Chinese and the characters have not lost their original beauty. The people are friendly and you can see real Chinese temples and treasures. Whilst some people on the mainland (West Taiwan) will rant and rave that Taiwan is part of the PRC and only 15 countries recognise Taiwan, it doesn't matter. They have their own government, currency, army, passports etc. In fact, many Taiwanese enjoy great travel options with Visas compared to the communists from across the Taiwanese Strait. For those of you interested in history, the KMT originally controlled all of China, Mao started a civil war which finished in 1949 and the KMT government (the original government of China) escaped to Taiwan. Taiwan makes the worlds best semi conductors and pineapples lol and the PRC can only copy rather than innovate. Give Taiwan a go - the REAL CHINA
@pohchan35353 жыл бұрын
Paul Cooper many of China’s autonomous provinces have their own flags, currency and local government, like Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Taiwan like all provinces in China is represented in all of National Peoples Congress (NPC) meetings in Beijing (you can check this on the internet as well as from Taiwan News websites where Taiwan presented bills to Beijing central government to increase tourism and trade to Taiwan province. China is Taiwan’s biggest trade partner as of 2021. On May 22, 2020 the Taiwanese delegation to the NPC session with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang was represented by Huang Zhixian, head of Taiwan province delegation. Why would Taiwan be allowed to attend NPC meetings if it isn’t a province of China and why would Taiwan delegates attend if they didn’t consider themselves a province of China.

Where do the lanterns with open fire end up?
@andersgale95443 жыл бұрын
In the jungle, ocean or fields. It's causing massive pollution.
@boryeumao477 Жыл бұрын
A lot of the lanterns get recycled. There is some movement to promote environmentally friendly materials. Fire hazard is apparently more serious. Ppl there may have shortcomings, but are fairly progressive on legitimate environmental issues.

The history of Taiwan can be traced back 400 years ago when Dutch came to southern Taiwan in 1624 and later the Spaniards came to northern coast of Taiwan. Today most of the families in Taiwan has lived in Taiwan more than 3 centuries. It was USA that defeated Japan in the second world war and ROC was only mandated by Allies (General MacArthur ) to govern Taiwan. The vintage of Chiang-kai-shek fleeing China to Taiwan and their descendants only constitute 12 percent of the citizens currently living in Taiwan. The majority of the families in Taiwan had lived in Taiwan before Chiang- kai-shek and their followers fled to Taiwan.
