BBC Two - 2001-2007 - "Personality 2s" Idents: Compilation v2

NOTE: This is a reupload of a older video now with improvements.
After 10 years, BBC Two controller Jane Root wielded the axe on the world-famous 2s. Alas, after years service, the BBC concluded that the much-loved idents were becoming too out of touch with BBC Two’s new ‘lighter’ schedule.
So in 2001 the BBC gave branding agency Lambie-Nairn a daunting brief: create a new BBC Two. And so they did. On November 19 2001, the 2 would always be in the same coloured studio, ivory and would have a personality of its own.
Instead of over 30 idents there were now just four, and rumour has it that on launch day one network director moaned to anyone who would listen about the restricted choice. The BBC Two logo was relegated to a purple box in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, starting a trend which would eventually be followed by the other three networks
These idents were replaced by the "Window on the World" package in 2007 after five years of service.

Every time I see this clip it makes me feel like I'm watching telly in the early 00's man I miss these indents sure the current BBC TWO ones are nice and all but they kinda lack personality these 2's definitely had personality and a life of their own, absolutely fantastic.

I was always disappointed with the yellow idents. The teal ones from the 90s were both creative and visually stunning. These never really lived up to that. I'm glad they've gone back to some of the classics.

@@fl570 Lambie-Nairn thought so too. He really didn't want to do this redesign, but apparently the BBC were just going to hire somebody else if he didn't do it. He'd mentioned in a lecture he was always getting annoyed at channel managers calling the old 2s "characters", until he finally realised maybe for the lighter, kid-friendlier programming he should _actually_ make it a character.

The only problem I can think here is the fact that during serious programs, the idents wouldn't get you pumped up for serious news. The soundtracks don't make it feel serious. Sure, Invisible Walls and Bounce Sombre did have serious music, but the yellow coloring ruins the "serious-ness" of a program like Newsnight.

These BBC2 idents remind me of the car ident from 1993 because of the yellow background and also because one of the idents has got a controller. One of these BBC2 idents reminds me of the dog ident also from 1993 doing backward flips but does not squeak and not fluffy

BBC Two should have got remembered by me. I used to watch a BBC Two ident which was 'Car' from 1993, but with the 2007 logo (I mean the Window of the World one). Then I watched the new BBC Two ident but with the logo not being squared. Also it's funny at 5:41

These were okay. Maybe more than okay. But I absolutely hate the logo box in the corner, which continues to ruin BBC Two idents to this very day. It's so distracting. And look how they didn't bother to even align the Subtitles legend to a more pleasing position. It makes for a hot mess, strip them down to just the sequence and they're not bad idents at all.

In the BBC’s defence, I don’t really think that they had many options, in regards to logo placement, that would have looked aesthetically pleasing. For example, I don’t think the ‘97 strip logo would have really worked with these idents. I agree about the ‘Subtitles’ legend; there is no excuse for it. They still seem to have trouble with it today.

Following the brand new look for BBC Two (which sadly also involved the removal of the "2" symbol), the BBC Two logo became boxless. However, the Northern Ireland area had gotten the boxless logo earlier, from 2015.
