BBC WORLD 2001 To 2003 - OVER 7 MINUTES!

When I was on Holiday on the Mediterranean Cruise back in 2001 heading from Rome, to Naples, to Malta, to Barcelona, to Nice, to Florence and back to Rome, we had BBC World News on the TV in our cabin throughout the cruise holiday. This was the time I got seriously hooked to BBC World News for real and I'm still a huge fan of it today! The World Weather, the breakfiller and the countdown theme tunes to BBC World News back then were just the best ever done back in my day. I was 15 back then.

Listening to the ‘World Live’ music brings back my childhood memories where the segment would be a filler before hourly news starts. The music still remains in my mind and heart.

This was THE best theme music for BBC World. I first heard it in 2003 while staying at the Hotel Armenia in Yerevan, sipping coffee in my room and watching BBC World. I wish they would go back to the 2003 version of the theme music. I especially like the "B part" - so calm, almost meditative. Thanks so much for posting this!

I totally love this music, most of the time it makes me happy, sometimes it makes me sad - all credit to Dave Lowe - amazing. What i like is the twists and changes over the years but it is still recognisable and does not change the fundamental roots imbedded in the theme, long may the BBC have this as their signature tune around the world - this is Britain showing how it should be done. I have been from Egypt to Tunisia to Thailand and always seek out our news and it is reassuring when i 'get a little bit of home'

Guys this is just brilliant ! I'v been looking BBC World briefly in 2003 and used to record the air show which I just found now on some old DVD. Fact is I always got fascinated by this piece of music from David Lowe (from 2.23 to 6.24) without looking about it or doing research. Having just played the old DVD now I recalled this wonderful music piece and decided to do some research and so found this webpage so thank you chaos24 for putting it in the first place. Just ordered the CD from the author website so everything looks fine so far... good to see many people got hooked by it also.

2:30 there was this mood, this vibe, almost a zeitgeist, around the turn of the millennium. I remember it so well, yet it was almost intangible... the technological aspect of music, the sense of slightly dark foreboding, almost like, "here we are, Y2K, anything is possible, but that's scary too". It was in videogames (Tekken 4, Metal Gear Solid 2 as well). 9/11 kinda ended this brief, but very memorable period.

The song if i remember correctly is "North Gate" by Ron Carnel and is available on a CD called "Earth Grooves" You can check up amazon for it. The CD also contains other great tracks used by earthTV.

BBC's breakfiller from 2001 also was available on a CD composed on demand for BBC by David Lowe (and sold by BBC finally because of heavy request for the music), which I also have bought. The Theme behind the Live Pictures originated by BT network comes off the CD named "Earth grooves" (last track 'North Gate by Ron Carnel). The 2003 theme is unknown, but sounds also like being composed by David Lowe.

The whole thing is a "mock". I collected all those clips, put dem together and made one whole vid. Earth TV shows on BBC World every 4 hrs weekdays. It use to show back in the day also(if i remembered correctly)

Yeah they do. Every 4 hrs. I don't have cable at this time so i don't kno if it is still on but they showed it up to early this year.

You know what really pisses me off? I live in the UK, and we have loads of different BBC channels, except one... BBC World. We don't get it here! Everytime I visit my family in Canada I watch that worldwide weather report with the live pictures. It's so cool! Come on BBC, show it in the UK!!

I was on summer holiday in Casablanca to watch it all the time news, business report, but I didn't see the weather theme tune and I went in northeast Belguim. In 2002 I watch it all the time for arest in syria Dimashq (Damascus) and 2003 Singapore. The BBC world programme was verygood the weather theme tune and the Programme news because I there all very good than new programme.

I do like this because if you are travelling abroad to another country in Europe or travelling to Canada there is always a possibility when you get into your Hotel room, you check the TV channels and there you have it. BBC World News is on the TV plus you also get the likes of CNN as well. But in America, BBC World News only goes on for half an hour and most annoyingly there's too many sponserships afterwards.
