That's not fully correct. The first Australian peacock spider genus Maratus Karsch was discovered in 1878. Skeletor, Spidermuffin, and the Elephant Peacock Spider are 3 more recently discovered species of Peacock Spider in 2015 and as of March 2020 at least 7 new species in the genus have been discovered by a peacock spider specialist, Joseph Schubert.

Peacock spiders are members of the family Salticidae - jumping spiders. They all have the large eyes you see and fascinate scientists because they have, despite their miniscule brains, surprising abilities to calculate angles etc when hunting prey.
