You need that extra nutrient that you could spent for baby making. For mammals and several other tetrapods, bigger male means a competition for females. The opposite is also true. Some creature, like birds spend their resources on brighter color or more pronounced traits instead. Keep in mind that the bigger the difference between males and females, the less likely it would became monogamous relationship and the higher chance it's a polygamous or harem relationship.

When I saw that little spider on a different David Attenborough special I too, thought he was absolutely adorable. They are called peacock spiders. The one I saw had very soft looking purple legs. I love the color purple and the little guy was so damn cute I put his video in the section where you post and share your favorite photos on facebook. I'm telling the gospel truth when I say he is in the hit parade more than my friends and family pics and vids. I dont know how many 'likes' he has but way more than any of my f&f. Most people with arachnophobia know spiders are harmless but are scared of them anyway. No dangerous spiders in my country but I’m still terrified.
