I understand why everyone complains about the “lack of accuracy” but remember it’s a tv show, a fair amount of poetic license was used in crafting the show but it’s heart is there, asking for complete purity is asking to blow it more out of proportion since people may not believe it

I live a short distance from Blair Mayne's home in North Down, he was a very well educated man from a well to do family, his accent would have been nothing remotely like this. It's hard to listen to. Accents are very varied in Northern Ireland .... the actor's accent is like a cross between Gerry Adams and Ian Paisley.

Hopefully the series will encourage people to tell more of his story.

Jack O'Connell is a brilliant actor and he nailed the accent given his father was also Irish and his Irish heritage. I just wished he was 2ft taller to play the part. I bet he wishes that too :) I think we all wish we were 2 ft taller.

I'm disappointed but not surprised that it got a second series. It's total fantasy, made flashy and sweary for the Lock Stock/Peaky Blinders crowd. The bit in the first series where Mayne insults and assaults a fellow Officer, in Public, in an Officers Mess, would probably have got him hung. Ah well, here's another couple of episodes of brassing up Nazi occupied Europe with the Clash or AC/DC playing, loudly, over anachronistic dialogue. Thank Christ I don't own or watch Telly.😂

Absolute rubbish, Blair Mayne never used foul language and had not been in prison. His part played by an actor who wasn't remotely like him. Mayne was 6'2" and an International Rugby player, being a member of Irish and British Lions team, also a boxer. His portrail is disgusting and a lie. A well educated man who was a qualified Solicitor.

I agree, I’ve been in the military (US) and Paddy is the least officer like officer I’ve even seen portrayed in a TV Show. He has the attitude of a Sergeant that grew up in the worst parts of the country rather than a “proper” gentleman, especially for the British Army. Hell even for the US military our officers are a lot more “gentlemanly” than the enlisted. For us the kinda guy that Paddy is wouldn’t even make it past OCS.

Blair Mayne while CO of the SAS, once set fire to an officer who left a mess function early. People that served with him described him as a psycopath.

Bear in mind that this isn’t a documentary, its a historical drama. The literal first eight seconds of every episode has this; Inspired by true events But be aware… this is NOT a history lesson.

Paddy was never in prison and if he was he would not salute as he did not have a Hat on I like the show But I do get frsutrated when i see details that are wrong there was a staff officer with no Tie Webbing worn with two belts in battle dress I dont know who is advising them but it could be done so much better I Thought Monty was terrible casting I think another issue is the actors have never served and you can tell by deportment and the way they present but its still very good lets hope the detail is better in future

Lets treat this for what it is....entertainment. personally i enjoy the characters accurate or not. They openly state that its not annaccurate portrayal but the missions they carried out were based on fact. Wether true or not,its the first thing i have seen from the bbc that inwould actually watch given the poor standards and woke drivel they produce daily.

This is total invention, based on rumours that started in the 50s. It's why I won't watch this series. It is a matter of record that Mayne was never in prison - indeed he was the discipline officer of 1 SAS, for goodness sake.

Yes, artistic licence has been taken but one thing this show has done is ignite interest in those who were overshadowed by David Stirling's version of events and revived the possibility that Paddy Mayne will finally get his well deserved posthumous VC.

It’s called suspension of disbelief. It is a sign of being able to hold more than one narrative in your head at once, whilst being aware that they are not both true.
