Watch The Greatest Dancer every Saturday night on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
It’s week 4 of the dance talent show where dancers of any age and dance style compete to win £50,000 and a chance to perform on Strictly Come Dancing.
Leading the charge to discover the greatest dancer are three superstar dance captains - platinum-selling singer Cheryl, Broadway and Glee star Matthew Morrison and Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse.
The series is hosted by singer and presenter Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo, member of multi-award-winning dance troupe Diversity.
The audience hold the power - if they are impressed by the audition, they can vote to open the mirror, and if 75 per cent of the audience vote yes then the mirror will open and the dancer will make it through to the next stage of the competition, the callbacks. Get ready to see talent from across the world of dance, from ballet to jazz, street to ballroom, contemporary to disco as the dancers give the performances of their lives in the hope of opening the mirror.

My son will be 5 in a few months. He’s nonverbal “low functioning” on the autism spectrum. This dance and group is so beautiful. But being a mother of a child on this spectrum, I’m crying hoping one day my baby can find what he most loves and is passionate about . This video is so special to my heart ❤️

They just see the world differently. I've worked with a 12 year old non verbal low functioning. A beautiful, smart and kind girl with all the love in the world she just needs people to see HER world.

Thanks to everyone taking their time to read this testimony on how my son was saved from Autism. He was diagnosed four years ago, and he's just 6, I have tried several treatments and medications, nothing was working out, this got me frustrated and depressed. I kept praying and finally God answered my prayers when someone from youtube introduced me to this doctor from his home country and gave me his contact details. I called and explained my son's condition after which I made an order for his herbal remedy, he asked for my address and the next day I got a tracking number for a parcel sent to me through DHL and after four days I received my order. It was a liquid herbal medicine and a letter containing the instructions on how to use the herbs, I called him again to confirm and the next morning I started giving my son the herbs as instructed and after one week I noticed great improvement on my son and I continued until the herbs got finished and everything lasted for just one month and now my son is totally free from Autism, he can now talk clearly, behave normally and has no more seizures. If you've been searching for a genuine solution for Autism, connect with this honest Doctor on WhatsApp + 2 3 4 8 0 7 7 6 8 3 1 0 9 or ( solutionhealinghome@gmail. com )

simple likely hood is that the BBC needs to pump up their female hiring numbers based on the very lower ratios of females in their company and given that BBC is funded based on it quoter system in number areas then that is why it simple is it needed no is it costing us tax payers more yes for such a pointless job

I don't HAVE autism. I am autistic (although I prefer to say I'm an autist). And this particular story demonstrates the power of reinforcement and generalization (two applied behavior analysis techniques) in teaching skills that apply to other areas of life. Autism is a neurotype. If you have met one autistic individual then you have met one autistic individual. We are like any other person in that and many other ways. We are each unique. We are not a stereotype.

Yes but applied behavioural analysis therapy, or ABA is literally abusive. It’s forcing autistic children to appear “normal” more often than not and forcing them to repress everything about autism which makes them different. It’s basically gay conversion therapy for autism. That’s the only reason why I’m happy I wasn’t diagnosed as a child. These kids obviously just like dancing.

i'm on the spectrum too, and although i wish we lived in a society where abled people weren't always shocked that we can actually do stuff, i'm really excited to see this performance! these students worked so hard, and did an amazing job! it's important for people with disabilities to see people like us being amazing, talented, and capable!!! it's also important for abled people to see it, so they can understand just how much we can do! inclusion MATTERS for EVERYONE! i don't personally think this is inspiration porn--i think this is inclusivity and visibility for the autistic community. people need to see people with disabilities living normal and extraordinary lives. it creates change, and it subverts stereotypes. great job to AWA and to their dance teacher!! i wish them the best of luck going forward!!

This is a story about the heart. This group dances with joy and passion and captures the hearts of the audience. It should not be dismissed as a sob story or inspiration porn. It just shows that the world has opened up to a more diverse range of performers and that no matter your ability or disability it is your heart that ultimately wins. I would rather watch a group with heart and great moves than a cold technically perfect act any day of the week. Signed, a mother of a child with severe autism

I pray daily for that too. This group is amazing, I don't know their range on the spectrum but for all of them, just to concentrate and move to music like this is awe aspiring. I'll have to show me son this. He works out and is working with someone training him in MMA(martial Arts). He is amazing in this. I hope they continue to dance together.

I teach all ages and all abilities... including dancers with learning disabilities... some in wheelchairs, some using walkers and canes, some are deaf and blind. I have to say those who are limited because of health issues are my best dancers. They are excited to learn, and they give it their best. They are kind and loving as well. I am the dance instructor but they teach me lessons that fill my heart. God bless the dancers in this video and my dancers as well! We are called to LOVE ONE ANOTHER! Amen. Why does a disability equal inspiration? I am not your inspiration porn, I'm just living my life and it shouldn't be inspiring when I overcome societal barriers. I do get your point and concern, but until we (the entire humanity) gets to that all are equal point, the only way to get there is to keep showcasing how differently-abled people are like everyone else, and as capable, if not more... Actually, the same applies to all members of minority groups (physical and mental abilities, racial, social, sexual, etc.). They need to be seen and heard by the general (majority) population sufficiently and often enough, until they are no longer seen as being different.
@FloridaGrandma

@@klwl AMEN to that! I have been saying this for more years than I care to admit. Same applies to gender, skin color, age etc. It amazes me that even after all of these years, protests, marches, education and esp. history itself ... people are still so inclined to lump everyone into "categories". We (meaning people as a whole) HAVE to STOP with putting a label on everyone and everything. It will be a beautiful world if/when we accomplish this.

Autism is not an illness its just a different way of looking at the world xx

I’m autistic and honestly seeing this as something that was on national television frustrates me so much for multiple reasons. 1. Why does the word “inspirational” need to be in the title? They did exactly the same as what every other contestant did and got on stage and danced so what makes them any more inspirational than anyone else? 2. Why is the dance teacher given so much kudos by the judges? He put together and trained a dance group - funnily enough the same as all the other coaches who trained the other contestants on the programme. The fact that people “salute” him because he works with autistic kids is pretty patronising as it just makes us out to be difficult to work with and that someone would have to be some sort of saint to actually want to put up with us. 3. The guy in the audience who hadn’t heard of dance used to deal with autism. Really? Why did the producers at the BBC choose to air that clip of all things? When someone is autistic, not everything in their life revolves around “dealing with” their autism. I sing because I love it. They dance because they love it. Not everything I do has a reason that is to do with autism, and it is especially not about “dealing with” it, I just choose to do the things I enjoy which I’m pretty sure other people do too. 4. I’m frustrated that these issues are even something I’m having to think about to be honest. It shouldn’t be. This show is about dancing and I should have been able to watch it and just decide whether or not I liked their dance, but the show revolved their air time so much around their autism that it distracted from the performance, and because there were so many issues with the way they represented attitudes towards autism, this comment was prompted. It’s not fair to the performers that their 7 minutes on the show revolved more around them being autistic than it did on their dancing which was the whole reason they were on the show in the first place! They didn’t enter The Greatest Dancer to get people to feel sorry for them or give them special treatment, they entered because they are dancers and they wanted to dance on the show. It’s not only unfair to them but it’s unfair to other contestants who gave equally good performances but didn’t get as much air time or attention because the BBC didn’t think they had as good of a “sob story” - which autism isn’t by the way because it isn’t a tragedy, autistic people can do whatever they choose to do if they work hard, just like anyone else can. 5. It is repeated throughout the video and in many comments that this is a good thing to have on TV because it proves that autistic people can achieve. That’s great, but why were people assuming that we couldn’t? Why in 2018 do people have to see a dance group made up entirely of autistic dancers to understand that we can do the same things that other people can do? You walk past autistic people on the street every single day without knowing it and they achieve and do normal things like having a job and having talents. Obviously I can’t fault the video for that and it is not the dancer’s faults that people make these assumptions but it definitely is an issue that the judges, the audience and even some of the parents just assumed that they wouldn’t be able to achieve what they have because of their autism, and that they had to prove otherwise in order to beat that assumption. If you’re still reading this, please don’t take the judges’ attitudes towards these contestants as an example of the right way to act around autistic people. We’re not incapable of doing the same things that other people do, we just have specific challenges but everyone has their own challenges in life. People who spend time with us are not automatically saints or people who deserve your respect and admiration - we are just people so spending time with us isn’t that difficult - and please don’t talk about us like we are not there! We can understand you and answer you so we don’t need to be answered for or talked about.

I have to agree. It was a pleasure to watch them do so well, but I found the way the story was told was patronizing. The editing style was pretty cheezy with close ups of parents crying and audience members commenting on their performance. It made the piece look very sensationalized.

The inspiration in each kids own personal rhythm in the way they made each move their own... but also as a group was amazing!!! someone just cut an onion and they weren't judged at all on their disability... yes it was awareness of being autism but the audience definitely did not judge this group based on having autism...which is amazing you can tell they deserved it !!!

Not aimed at this video whatsoever, but how much better would it be if you got the "sob story" after the people had performed?? Or even just for viewers at home, not for the actual audience. I get that this is how to sway the voting and makes for good TV, but I feel like people would vote more critically if this were the case.

The problem is that it's not meant to be a dance competition, it's meant to get ratings, and having the sob story after would make people feel guilty if they vote down people who have a good sob story.
