It is actually very eye opening for me as I live in Jakarta and this place might only be as far as 5 to 6 miles from my neighborhood, the more horrifying is the fact that not many of us are aggressively informed about the problem. We know Jakarta is sitting below the sea level and that it is sinking a few centimetre every year, but nobody really brings the awareness and proofs that not only it's already happening, it happens fast. Our media is obsessed with politics, religions and how to combine them, when there's a literal place not far from our houses where a man can fish on the street. #smh

Same goes to Malaysia, before the change of government ‘new government ‘ where the opposite coalition won the election and the government were past to the right hand, the media becomes free to report. I do agree that Education is a key for everything. But i know indonesia is a massive country, and its not an easy job. Regard the topic, i do believe that the idea of moving the capital to a new place is must, or otherwise all investors will signout. I mean, if you’re an investor, will you gonna invest on a place that will submerged soon? And of course, the gov should know by moving the capital doesn’t solve all the problems. There will be more problem coming. I mean, where the government plan to move all the people who live in jakarta? Its not a small number. Its massive number of people. Hope that the gov would invest in education, so that the people can change their life quality.

The governor, the ministers and the president have tried hard enough to deal with this problem. but some people who live in the suburbs of Jakarta refuse to be moved and prefer to defend their place for various reasons. one of them is because they has lived there since he was a child and is a house inherited from his parents. However, when it rains heavily, especially during the rainy season and early in the year, they blame the government for not being able to handle the floods that hit Jakarta. There was once a Jakarta governor who was good at dealing with flood problems and for several years during his tenure, Jakarta was not flooded. but the problem of misunderstanding made Jakarta choose the wrong leader. He had talked to the media if it was raining, let the water enter the ground, not be processed into the sea. I'm talking like this because I live in Indonesia and grew up in Jakarta. and so everyone knows how bad the city is right now

Manila is not sinking, government doing urban planning, development and also in sewerage. Philippines transfered all mega cities outside metro manila like Clark City. There's a new airport, subway train, terminal buses, housing projects, business hub and a new business district uprising. 🇵🇭

It's easy to transfer businesses and build infrastructures outside Metro Manila to cater the greater Manila area because the islands are connected by bridges. We just need to ride public transportation to move from the province to Manila and vice versa. Indonesia's problem is that their islands are too much farther apart from each other that it is impossible to connect islands using bridges. You need to ride a plane or a boat to move from one island to another. Transferring businesses or government agencies to other island there means abandoning the former island. Jakarta has more poor families than the rich ones. It is impossible for them to travel via plane back and forth for their needs.

As long Jakarta is pumping water up from beneath the city it will sink further and further. @@marivicclaros3612 Manila is just one city. The entire Philippines should do the same. Jakarta will soon be the Philippines with the disregard of its forests and mountainside. The city of Marikina was in the news again for being underwater because the Sierra Madre mountainside has been continuously quarried and mined with massive illegal cutting of trees. To think the city has been underwater years ago already and the government never learned. Population control is also a problem with the urban poor's increase of unplanned pregnancies. All over Metro Manila rushed condominium developments make the city as grey and concretized as Jakarta. Every time I visit the Philippines the greenery gets less and less seeing it from the plane. Disregard of the environment, over building of condos and overpopulation - recipes of Jakarta's pending disaster and demise.
