I'm guessing Princess Di's death a few weeks earlier had caused further disruption to the schedule? That Wallace and Gromit promoted in the Saturday night promo replaced an "Are You Being Served?" episode, (which itself had been postponed from the 6th of September!) and there's no mention at all in Radio Times/BBC Genome of a Casualty special!

So the Casualty episode wasn’t so much a ‘special’ but was a feature length episode with a 75 minute runtime - should have been shown on the day of Princess Dianas Funeral but was shifted in the schedules to the following Thursday obviously.
