Really, it was the competition from SMTV (after years of ITV not being bothered) which made this sort of feature untenable. SMTV certainly did for the "serious" bits in Saturday morning programmes, but what we didn't know when it was in its pomp was that it was actually quite late in the Saturday morning era as we had known it ...
