I think we all miss television continuity and the differences that shaped the different UK regions, reflected. Now once amalgamated, it's near impossible to separate. Thanks Alistair for sharing.

Continuity with a personal touch. It's a shame it came to an end really. Thanks for sharing this Alastair.

I like the regional continuity, late night news summaries and closedowns.

It was such a shame, the end of regional continuity. Slides from a local camera club and music would often mean BBC Midlands were the last to Closedown. At the end in the midlands, we had Guy Thomas, Ann Tennant, Alistair Yates, Kay Alexander (occasionally) and the very memorable David Stevens as the announcers. They would often read the new bulletins during Midlands Today as well. Sadly all has gone down hill since then and regional tv has come to an end as we knew it. If I remember rightly David Stevens brought the curtain down on late night closedowns a week later.

Very unusual BBC1 closedown.
@gentsw136 жыл бұрын
Not during these years, essvee was it 'very unusual'. All BBC1 announcers up and down the United Kingdom used to read the local regional news at closedown (not certain about Sundays). Often it was the same news presented when Breakfast Time appeared. Interesting to note - This was not the policy in the Greater far more important South East! Obviously, there was never anything of importance to impart!! So now its goodnight from everyone who may have been on duty in BBC Television Centre, London! ........ Goodnight again and dont forget to switch off your television and pull the plug from the mains socket .......... and while youre down there ...........

This seems a nice touch. I grew up in the North West region and I do remember a programme called "Sweet and Sour"??? with Stewart Hall and John Mundy being on. I saw clips of it being advertised as it was late at night (I was only about 4/5) at the time.

Now the late Alistair Yates.

I downloaded this a few years ago and I could have SWORN this was from 1980 because I've got a similar closedown from the North West in which John Mundy says that this was the last time BBC1 in t'North West would be closing down due to cutbacks at the BBC.
