How amazing hearing this again. I loved this music and recorded it on C90 cassette tapes back in the day. They are long gone but the memories are cherished and oh how I’d love to relive those days once more.

I have a copy of this test card-the Phillips PM5544 or Test Card G as it was also known as-on DVD which I bought from the Test Card Circle, to which I belong. The reason for this being shown may have been that the BBC1 network in London was still on air, so BBC Scotland had to fill the airtime before the network closed down for the night. Thank you for the posting though-well done!

And also superb that the Test Card Circle have preserved the PM5544 Test Card generator as well. Didn't realise down South here that they were still using it in 1993!

i wonder why does the testcard / closedown need nicam stereo and subtitles.. whats the subtitles gonna say "BEEEEEEEP BEEP beep BEEEEP" in case you're thinking im going mad, look closely it says 888 on the right hand corner of the ident indicating the next show has subtitles.

You're right Bruce - note the tape starts at track 8 around 16 mins in - probably where the BBC 2 play featured elsewhere faded before joining the network.

Why was BBC Scotland using music on the test card and not the tone?

the 400 doesn't bother me it's the high pitched 1000 that's rough on my ears

The regional centres mostly used 900mhz tone.

As this was only aa break between programmes in effect, was considered better to play music. During the mid/late 2000s it was quite likely that BBC 2 Scotland would have to show G, J or pages from Ceefax when programmes in Scotland finished before the network. In this case, Scotland (Tony Currie i think) actually put together a set of there own music tapes.

that's close to 1000hz Some stations like ITV used 400hz as a tone

No testcard F?
@davepage8080 Жыл бұрын
No Testcard F could only be broadcast from London; Testcard G could be broadcast from each region as each region had a generator to radiate it!
