Yes, Australians will recognise Opal anywhere and understand it's value. I'm still grinding my teeth about an Opal and Silver ring that I lost whilst travelling overseas many years ago. Geoffrey Munn is endlessly entertaining. And it's not just his incredible knowledge, his keen powers of observation, his marvellous storytelling, & his sparkling vocabulary. Geoffrey's greatest charm is that he understands not just price, but VALUE. He respects & is curious about family history, about how even inexpensive objects can become priceless to their owners, how collectors of even modest items became collectors--he's passionate about it all. And he weaves fascinating stories about items he spends only moments with--I literally pictured the apprentice jewellery-maker Geoffrey must have pictured as he described the many talented hands that worked on the egret brooch at 33:39. Geoffrey Munn has an almost intimate knowledge of the pieces he examines, it's extraordinary.

@tothelighthouse98434 ай бұрын
You could tell the appraiser, Geoffrey Munn, knew exactly how emotionally & historically precious the pieces were, & he was THRILLED to see the family photo which is part of what makes him so special. Off topic, but the story of her great-grandfather the chef to Victoria & Bertie is very much like the story of 'The Duchess of Duke Street". I don't know if you've ever seen the excellent BBC tv series, but it's an incredible rags to riches story of a working class woman who works & strives her way to becoming personal chef to Bertie (|Edward VII). It's based on the real life story of Rosa Lewis, The Duchess of Jermyn Street.

My sister in law and I were very good daughter in laws. We never disrespected her in any way. We were both thoughtful to her. She had some jewelry. None my taste. However, I would have loved to have received a piece of her jewelry. Unfortunately her daughter is a mean spirited jealous woman. Very envious of everybody else. I will never forget we were all together at my home for a holiday and her daughter said “your jewelry “ is mine. Finally, I had enough and said to her “nobody wants your mother’s jewelry “. It was terrible. She said that in front of her mother. Who was in good health. Afterwards I hold my husband, her son, if our daughter ever spoke like that, I would have put her in her place.

Emeralds are the most expensive precious gem today. This particular show was from 2007 to 2009. Gold prices were lower than but I agree 100% that the first emerald necklace is worth far more than the snowflake at least today.
@savannah1158 ай бұрын
I thought rubies were way more expensive, which would explain the snowflake. I'm definitely not an expert, just going on my own attempts at buying my mother a ring with my sister and I's birthstones. The ruby was way more expensive than emeralds. Edited to add: I gave it a quick Google, which is definitely not scientific, but it does appear that good quality rubies are much more expensive than emeralds of similar quality. I guess because it's just harder to find rubies.

My love of stones and jewels was seriously dampened when a relative made my dementia-addled mother think I had stolen mom’s sterling flatware, and then accepted all my family’s jewelry held by my mom. For a year following my mom’s passing, she pretended my mom had misplaced the jewelry. I finally dragged the truth out of her, and I had my attorney deal with her. I got the stuff back, but things were never the same.

I felt in love with the 15:30 piece: Holbein in front, Indian on the backside. Such a pity I cannot purchase it because it is out of my range price. He has evaluated 8 thousands in the 90s, so I m scared at the perspective of how much it would cost right now. Anyway, with me It wouldn't hold the "pristine condition" it had at the time of filming for much longer, because I would wear it continuously. If I m working, shopping of cleaning I would hold it under my shirt, only in the right situations I would flaunt it in front of everybody. This is a piece that implies commitment: or you wear it all the time or you live it alone, and I m sure about it!
