Llyn Dulyn (‘Black Lake’ in Welsh) lies nestled in the Carneddau range of mountains in Snowdonia.
A quiet, eerie place, it’s steeped not only in an ancient folklore of evil spirits and witches, but also a more modern variety of ghost story. It was the site of multiple airplane crashes during WWII, and became infamous across North Wales. In this clip, the locals speak in hushed tones to reporter John Swinfield of collecting debris from the plane wrecks, catching strange-looking fish and hearing disembodied voices calling out to them…
Excerpt taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, Wednesday 17th October 1973.

The secondhand stories, the yarns about the "ghosts" of Black Lake don't move me at all. The story, in the middle of the video, that I was surprised to see, *that* was what caught me off guard. Children retrieving damaged, old parts from the fallen aircraft, and the man - then, just a boy - being exposed to the bloated corpse of the drowned airman. That was disturbing.

Yeah. Astonishing. The adult's objective appeared to be showing the people around him the trophy (?) of the Iron Cross on the dead airman. Something another adult could comprehend, in the time of war. Not a boy, though. Poor fella.

Why are ghosts such bad liars? Because you can see right through 'em. Ah-thankyou... (Walks off stage to sound of own footsteps).

That's almost as bad as "What's the one animal you never want to play cards with?" A cheetah. 🤪

For a few seconds, at the start, I thought the narration was by Richard Ayoade!

Auditory illusions, nothing more. Of course, people will still continue believing in ghosts, and other childish nonsense.

You're exactly right, never ceases to amaze me the bollocks people believe in. Funny how nearly everyone has a camera in their pocket and there has not been a shred of evidence. Idiots.
