Jamil, you seemed to have better luck when you strapped him down to the wooden platform. Was there any specific reason why you started doing it with the chair? And anyone who has an issue with this, Jamil has to so this. Macaques and other primates use their nails sometimes for defense, sometimes for climbing, etc. JK is fighting evolution here - it has been part of their genetic make-up that their nails are supposed to be longer. It is inherent, like when a baby macaque instantly knows how to cling to their mothers almost immediately, as well as start searching for the nipple for milk. Let me tell you, those nails are no joke. They are sharp and long, and while it isn't their first line of defense, it is important to them. Jamil has to do this, especially with JK. I know some people were not around when JK succumbed go his alpha urges, but Jamil did get injured and had to go to the hospital. Not that JK will do that again, but Jamil has to be careful. He can read JK's warning signs, and knows the best course of action to remain JK's alpha. Sure it can be tough to watch, but it has to be done. And Jamil is very gentle with him, and has extraordinary patience.

Nail trimming is part of pet care. JK can't be going around with long nails. They'll get caught in something and rip his toe. Watching the nail trim shows us what Jamil has to do, and what's involved. Jamil was good to JK. The nail trim wouldn't get accomplished unless JK was restrained. Animals don't like their nails cut. And the nail trim was painless and quick. I like knowing what Jamil has to do, and nail trimming is mild and in the real world. ❤

Jk has floating leg syndrome that's y he kept bitting his own hand this is so traumatizing for him..but he's been going threw this for many many many years so u would think he'd just give in bynow...😂

JK fights him any time Jamil tries to cut his [JK's] nails. How do you hold a struggling adult male macaque still? Unless Jamil starts drugging JK … which would likely be illegal in Malaysia … restraining JK is the only way to trim his nails. Of course, it would be better if JK were living his best life in the wild, but Jamil found JK dumped in the middle of a busy highway [you can find the full story with a quick Google search]. Or maybe Jamil should've turned JK over to a wildlife sanctuary … which would be who, exactly? Were there any in Malaysia back in the late-1990s, and if there was, did they even have space for a 1 year old male pigtail macaque? Did Jamil go to the Malaysian Wildlife Department back then, only to be told, "You keep him, or find him a home, or we take him and euthanize him"? Only Jamil has the answers.

Jamil, is is reactive because he knows what's coming, and then you become reactive. You are never mean to him, and when you cut his nails, he knows what's going to happen. Is it really worth it. Take him to Vet.

This is pigtail macaque only the owner can treat them .no vet in the worlds can give treatment to other people pigtail macaque unless sedated them.

He ain't gonna do something unless it's required by law, or heavily recommended by the Malaysian Wildlife Department. [I have a feeling that keeping the nails trimmed is one of those things.] When trimming my cats' claws, I have to restrain them. Bribing them with treats worked … until one of my cats was diagnosed with diabetes last fall. No more treats.

As much as some viewers may anthropomorphize the monkey, at the end of the day, he is still an animal. Albeit a smart one that has the same basic body layout as a human! But, he is an animal, and nails must be cut, seeing as he won't do so for himself. The poor sod though, I feel for him when he makes those little squeaks and squeals!
