The whole idea that they just speak English with a French accent to speak French or German or Italian is brilliant and for speaking English they talk with a posh accent with a “tally ho” put in, classic. But the Englishman who pretends that be a French policeman is great saying for example “good moaning I was just pissing be when I thought I’d just give you this massage” instead of “good morning I was just passing by when I thought I’d give you this message” was such a clever but simple idea and is just so funny

I fell in love with this show aged 6 when it came on tv(i was a weird kid don't ask),my favourite character was Lt Gruber. I am lucky to have met Guy Sinner,i terrified him when I screamed like a schoolgirl.

The original pilot show was excellent but the series went on too long ,ran out of ideas became too daft .For me the introduction of Arthur Bostroms policeman started the rot . Still each to their own !

Actually I think that Officer Crabtree was very funny,with mispronounciations which is supposed to be a parody of someone trying to learn a foreign language but doing it badly.

Ah so all the German characters spoke perfect fluent French ,whilst the British agent sent specially was floundering with school boy French ! Crude clunky comedy .As Ted Bovis once said "First rule of comedy ,It's got to be believable ".
