pufferfish are highly toxic, also for dolphins. if they rip it to shred, tetradotoxin will be released in the water and all surrounding dolphins will most likely die. They stress out the pufferfish enough it gives of a bit of the poison/neurotoxin that they get a high but not so much they die.
