I like this video a lot. It covers the angles you don't usually learn as an EAL learner, e.g. I was taught that the "zero conditional" is always structured: if + present simple, present simple. It absolutely blew my mind when I learnt there was much more to it and suddenly it all seemed logical, not just a bunch of rules you had to memorise. I am now teaching conditionals - the irony is not lost on me - and this is the only video I was able to find which actually covers conditionals in their entirety, and in 2 minutes at that! I wish 14-year-old me had known you could learn this in 2 minutes using logic rather than in 3 years using grammar rules explained by people with questionable subject knowledge.

1st: If I buy a camera, I could take amazing photos. (possibility, likely to happen) 2nd: If I bought a camera, I would take amazing photos. (hypothetical situacion, unlikely) 3rd: If I had bought a camera, I would've taken amazing photos. (imagined past) Mixed: If I had bought a camera, I would take amazing photos. (present result of a past action: I bought a camera, so now I can take amazing photos) (Are those sentences correct?)

Hi Nicolas! Thanks for your examples! They are very nice, but we need to make a small correction: 1st: If I buy a camera, I could take amazing photos. - While this is correct, the use of 'could' makes it seem more hypothetical than you would like it to be. In many conditionals, could is used as a hypothetical. You can use 'can' here to make it much more 'real: 1st: If I buy a camera, I can take amazing photos. 2nd: perfect 3rd: great Mixed: Very nice! Although we can make this a little clearer by using words that give us more context - for example: If I had bought a camera when I was a teenager, I would be taking amazing photos by now. Well done!

"If it rained, we stayed inside" feels a bit awkward. In what context would we need to use 1st conditional in past? Thank you!
@franEnglish120 күн бұрын
When you say it slower it makes more sense... If it rained, ...................we stayed inside.

@@franEnglish1 But still the.. I can't think of the context in which it is used. I mean, there is more to this than just saying it slowly and pausing for it to sink in meaning-wise

I think this lessons are a little bit advanced for beginners (above intermediate level), that would be the reason.

not at all. i'm beginner and i tell you, it doesn't matter both his pronunciation and speaking speed. How does he do it - that's what's important. He was not just telling someone invented text, he talks to me and because of this it is very easy to understand him. Facial expressions, gestures, intonations - all this helps to understand what is going on.
