@@braindonor8753 and i hate this.. u just don’t get what he means- It was still a true experience back then and now it’s a rip off commercial shit show. It was a hub of discovery and innovation and never felt like a swelling mess of too many people paying megastars. It was a slow decline and it’s been the way it is now for some time
@braindonor87532 жыл бұрын
@@robvig I hate that you don't understand that vibes aren't exclusive to Glastonbury. The underground lives on, and there are amazing pure musical experiences to be had every week. Yet another old person who thinks that their generation had a monopoly on fun.
@braindonor87532 жыл бұрын
@@robvig and I was going out mid 90s too. The underground is in rude health.
@robvig2 жыл бұрын
@@braindonor8753 it’s just really well-hidden these days and ages ago the underground would peek over into the mainstream much more WE WERE talking about Glastonbury tho- you know it started as a free festival in the 70s right? I was hinting it kept that spirit until the noughties hit, really. Corporate greed never really ‘got in’ before that. Pop artists weren’t even interested in appearing at Glasto it just wasn’t worthwhile to them or appealing. Even Woodstock had an entry fee! You’re talking about a package holiday now- to camp in a field for Pop Artists ego trips, for a K-pop style karaoke around the Pyramid Stage. All the crusties/hippies/spirituality stuff was essential to Glasto, as soon as that all fell away it was done. If all profits are going to people like Kanye West or Beyonce and you’ve raised prices to do that it naturally becomes a different beast- as when i realised i had to stop going- because that money WAS being split over getting such an amazing roster of artists on all stages.. it was almost impossible to schedule yourself- it was like an exam- you’d find yourself running around in the dark trying to navigate back to the Other Stage or something. I was just emphasising it is a different beast and i will always think that’s sad and lost.. other festivals have filled those boots for sure but this isn’t just a case of ‘old man shouts at cloud’ i think ageism is just one of the many lazy argument gaffs today, everything in it’s little echo chamber box so no one has to think. The amount of times you get called a Boomer for ‘knowing stuff’ other than the last 5minutes of shite culture, is mainly annoying as hell coz it was your Parents or grandparents who were boomers- again- lazy inaccuracy but easy to write off everyone who doesn’t agree with you

Now, you get some shyster masquerading as the big next thing, the corporate machine telling you how great it is, and a load of idiots filming it all on their phone and experiencing the square root of f**k all. Back then artists just got on with it and if you liked it great, if not you just went elsewhere. And those in the know could profit. It felt a lot more innocent. It was better for the artist and the punter. State of things now. Urgh. It's all so individualistic, me me me, personal brand fu**ing sh*te. It needs to stop. Hopefully the second coming of New Labour can restore us to sanity.
