Wouldn't be that easy. Most well educated professors will require some small but essential improvised checking. For example, if you handed in a perfect essay on, say, Colonial America, or the British Monarchy, or Faulkner or Shakespeare or Marlowe or Kim Jong-Un or Medieval Europe or the building of the giant & geometrically perfect Angkor Wat (giant 25 square miles of artificial lakes, the carving and transporting of giant granite many miles down river, etc)... or if you handed in a program or algorithm for how to do X, Y, or Z ..... but can't really, in the moment, explain to the professor why or how somethings were the way the were.... But if you're already a well educated and simply needed to cut the time you spend crunching numbers, finding "the right words," etc. than CHATGPT should work fairly similar to how Stephen Wolfram's Mathematica, Wolfram Alpha, etc. Please, keep in mind that very powerful, mathematical tools like Mathematica and WolframAlpha haven't channeled a lot of dumb to mediocre engineers, mathematicians, or statisticians --- who otherwise looked and sounded extremely smart on paper or in their resumes --- to research communities around the world, even though millions have used such powerful and precise mathematical tools for years...

It would be more correct to say the concerns are over “cheating”rather than “plagiarism”. Plagiarism is passing off somebody else’s (published) work as your own. This is different as works produced by ChatGPT are not published in the public domain prior to you receiving the output of the chatbot. There is however an ambiguity with copyright ownership on the output of (certainly) the free version of ChatGPT. OpenAI would presumably own the copyright on anything output by the algorithm, however the nature of the tool allowing you to cut and paste the output would seem on the contrary to imply the output is freely distributable.
@abcd-hw8io Жыл бұрын
Plagiarism doesn’t need to be from a published source, it just needs to be passing someone else work as yours. So even if you pay a person to write your essay for you and that person never published their work, it is still plagiarism.

That's already a commonly used practice with AI models, it depends upon reinforcement learning of two models playing against each other, one trying to fool the other, and the other trying to detect if it's being fooled. The funny thing about Ai and humans is that it was invented by humans and when human speak to each other we speak in a way that we're talking to another person. However when writing an essay, a goal action plan, or any legal document we are going to use the language that we were taught to use. If you read any legal documents or terms of use agreements you cannot tell who or what wrote it because it is how we are trained. That alleged software is not going to be able to catch everyone. Maybe an idiot or 2. I remember University of Phoenix plagiarism calculator told me my papers were all plagiarized when I wrote 15 pages from my head in 1 hour. I brought it up to the teacher and was simply told to change the way I wrote the sentences. These things are bullshit and no matter what you do someone thinks just like you. The only reason that teacher knew that I wrote it is because she can see the difference and how the papers were written because I presented her the papers that I wrote with pencil and was able to read and explain the paper without actually looking at it. So yes I say these things are bullshit.

A teacher who has hesitations about whether or not the student actually wrote it should copy paste the text from the student back into chat, GPT, and asked to generate 10 questions based off that content. Provide those 10 questions to the student, and if they can answer them, then they understand the curricular outcomes. If they can’t answer them, then you know that they do not understand the curricular outcomes, and from that you can ascertain that AI may have been used for the creation of the submitted document. If students can use it, so can teachers. Fight fire with fire. I was speaking with a high school, chemistry teacher the other day who asked chat GPT to generate a 20 question quiz on a very specific topic in grade 12 chemistry. He said that he had a 20 question quiz in about 15 seconds, and when he went through it, it was accurate to what he was wanting to test. He went on to say it would’ve taken him over an hour to create that same quiz himself.

On one hand, I find it fun, on the other hand as this stuff progresses it could easily become a genuine threat to humanity. Whether its Neuralink, ChatbotGPTs or Midjourney art creations. With such things coming out, really the only people who will succeed are those already rich and those who control these AI. People don't seem to realize that the idea of AI and Robots taking over every human job is by no means a fantasy, and by the end of our lifetimes many jobs will already be robot operated unless something changes. It also poses an extreme human life endangerment, as someone in the Airforce, I love getting to use the drones. But, as they progress and get ever more dangerous, and with AI potentially being able to take the role of the drone operators in the next few years, warfare would be even worse then it is now. And such tech could possibly induce more warfare then there is today. And, my final point, I know many people (like myself, I guess) who are against this, and in recent years due to global events extremism is on the rise. It could go as far as too causing world rebellions, and that is by no means a fantasy either as I know people who would easily take out their gun and fight.

AI is a tool like an excavator was since 80 years ago and dynamite was since 150 years ago... We just need to learn to use it. I am quite surprised how basic all news reporting has been about this, every news reporter uses chat GPT for the same 2 questions, not showing what it can do att all. And stop throwing Elon Musk into everything. Being a (soon to be failed) conman/businessman does not make him understand AI.

Literally hours of our lives, spent at home torturing ourselves writing pointless essays.....now the coming generation of kids will not have to. I guess it would be normal to feel a little bit of resentfulness there? What has been the point of homework anyway? Isn't 8 hours of school per day enough? If the school period isn't enough then there must be something wrong with the system, surely?
@st20332 Жыл бұрын
I said the same when I was in school 10 years ago, my teachers seemed to understand me, I think I handed in one piece of homework throughout my 5 years there, and had no complaints Lol

The point was to train us to accept no work/life balance. 🤣 There's so many similarities between the school system and work! (especially working for corporate!)

ngl it isn't even the coming generation of kids. Kids today, wherever they are on the spectrum won't need to do their own homework to the extent that we had to 5 or 10 years ago. Homework is absolutely ridiculous if you are going to make the school day 8 entire hours. The middle east has a 4 hour school day and then quite a bit of homework.

pointless? essays make people think, move the brain, generate ideas
@st20332 Жыл бұрын
@Ukraine will win! 💙💛 L'Ukraine va gagner! The problem is that exactly. Most essays now aren't generating ideas, but just show you can regurgitate information.

‘Deep Questions’?😮 The two questions any creator would already have programmed a prescriptive response for. Not impressed at all with the reporter’s demonstration. 🥴

It's okay humans. Let AI speak for you. No need to think for yourself or speak for yourself. AI will protect your rights.

No it's going to free us from all the formalities and bureaucracy so we can think about new things. Like what we actually want to do with our lives instead of filing someone else's reports so they can earn millions.

@@ens0246 free us from having our own brain? it is bad enough that young generations had 2 years of covid, have mobile phones and watches to cheat, have online classes so poor teachers do what they can, etc, brain development and personality growth does not go through some AI, kids and students are taught to think, to make decisions, to choose, to evaluate, to predict, to plan etc

The paper I have written for my courses is totally trash with no academic value. If paper created by AI can get high scores it shows the failure of current education system: students can be replaced.

Not true that it doesn't tell you where it took the information from. You just have to ask it to provide in-text citations and references. It's only as good as the person asking. If you don't ask, it won't provide.

I use chatgpt to get ideas and write them down in my own style. Not sure how much of a plagiarism is that.
