@JubJubtheWonderHippo
@JubJubtheWonderHippo 4 жыл бұрын
@M. Smith He did. He gave questions challenging Shapiro and his beliefs, that's what journalists are supposed to do. This was a news interview, not a daytime talk show interview. It's not Neil's fault that Shapiro didn't just answer the question, and instead decided to attack the question and the questioner. Really, that shows how Shapiro isn't really all that good at debating too, he can't focus on the topic, and instead seeks to discredit the opponent and invalidate the question rather than address it with real facts or logic.

@M. Smith Otvali, tovarisch - all Andrew did was, y'know, ask it to explain and justify some of the things it has said in the past, and COULD it? No, it COULDN'T - in fact, it, essentially, called a man who once said that, as HIV wasn't really a problem for straight men, it wasn't really a problem AT ALL and who USED TO WORK FOR RUPERT MURDOCH a LEFTIST. @fm1615

@@ejl1000'Human rights' as of 5 minutes ago. Abortion has been illegal for most of human history across societies. Unfortunately, this even meant punishment for late term miscarriages - though exceedingly rare as they are. Maybe you can find exceptions to this rule, but it's a rule. Only very recently have we had the abortion pill, for example; risky cocktails were the choice before, and were generally illegal before the mid-20th century. It is a disservice to the wisdom of our ancestors to offhandedly disclaim them as ignoring 'human rights.' I would argue abortion is not a human right; and this is not a settled matter. Human rights, as we think of them in the West, come from God. This is from Voltaire, Locke, etc. So to use that argument in a secular way is ironic, to say the least. Medical abortion is a relatively new concept and the discourse on its humanity continues. Frankly, the science is clear: the DNA is unique to the 'fetus', and more and more we have better imaging and proof of life at very early stages of development, where historically we had to rely on when the baby could be felt kicking (known as "quickening.") And you know, many historical state laws used quickening as the benchmark for life, so the ways of some states today to allow elective abortions at any stage of life would be considered barbaric to them.

Samuel Díez well, plenty of people have called Shapiro a nazi, so that makes him a so called nazi. Just because the dude doesn’t agree with the far left about socialism, that doesn’t make him conservative. Do you consider either of the Bush presidents to be conservative? Because they were most definitely not. How about Nixon? Their labels don’t line up with the ideology of conservatism. Conservative doesn’t get to change from person to person; it’s about individual rights, so it doesn’t matter what label someone uses when their ideology doesn’t fit the definition

@@jlondono7 I think the thing is that, there is no one lost. The purpose of the interview is just one person asking questions and the other answers, so that people can know more about the topic, which can a person, a book, or an opinion. This is the purpose of the whole thing. There is no back and forth interaction, it's supposed to be only one way. The only thing Ben "lost" to was not the debate, he didn't lose to the debate or argument, cuz there was none. But he lost calm and lost the interview. Tbh, the one being attacked here is not Ben, it was the BBC interviewer the whole time. About questions taken out of context, these are perfect opportunity for interviewees to fill in the context and extend that context to resonate with audience. Elsewhere on the internet, people will literally encounter and read these quotes out of context in everyday life (because they are too lazy to do more research), and Ben would have no chance to explain it. But here Ben was given this very channel to show it. But first he had to take it as a debate, and then had to take it personally. If your opinions can't be confronted by an interview that you lose temper to, idk how i feel about that. Edit adds: In summary, he is not good at this interview thing and he lost calm.

He was provided a hypothetical and had a complete meltdown, then got mad because he wasn't allowed to monologue off his pre written talking points. The fact that he folded like a house of cards to a hypothetical is pretty indicative of his entire style of derailing any sort of reasonable discourse in a discussion. @@Dundoril Actually Neill at the end around 15:00 says " .... And I did not know you before I _briefed_ myself on this ...." which was an elegant underhanded kick. Because Shapiro could have found out in 1 minute online search (wikipedia): Interviewer is staunch conservative. And with a little more research: Neil has grilled a lot of high profile politicians and some of them are skilled weasels too. I think Bo-Jo did not dare to be interviewed in the last election. In other words: Ben Grifter is so sure that his rhetoric tricks get him out of a tight spot in interviews that he did not bother to prepare. And he is used to softball questions to begin with. this is the _BBC_ and he wants to sell his book. A good interview could have helped him doing that. It was legitimate to look at his former positions. Unlike U.S. media you do not get a book promotion and free airtime (does he know what ads would cost at that spot ? With the BBC and one of their high profile interviewers). He will have to endure that it goes beyond polite questions about his book and the very recent past. And since a lot of the UK audience may not know him he should greet the opportunity to elaborate. If they google him they will come across his criticized statements anyway. If it is part of his ideology stand by it even if it is unpopular. If not admit it. (I should not have said that about all Palestinians, I applies to Hamaz, and I aploogize. I have evolved on that, the tweets are in 2012. Well he is paid to not evolve on that issue, that is why he got angry). He is a professional bullshitter, and Breitbart and the big donors behind them - pay him - and not for ideologcially consistent positions. that is why he got so defensive. 6 weeks heartbeat abortion ban. If you stand behind that and allegedly like a somewhat controversial spirited debate (free speech, no PC crap) - you do not play offended if that is called dark ages. You say: I disagree strongly and here is why 1) ... 2) ... 3) .... He didn't do that. He tried to deflect by attacking.

To all of the Shapiro fans complaining that Neil is "digging up" all these old quotes to make Shapiro look bad: Shapiro was on the BBC to promote a book where he argues that one of the reason America is on the decline is that political discourse has gotten too toxic and laments the fact that the Left and Right cannot have a civil conversation anymore. A casual Google search will show that Shapiro has also spent his entire career belittling the Left as being overly sensitive little snowflakes who hate facts and argue with emotion. Neil was giving Shapiro the chance to explain the discrepancy between his previous inflammatory statements and the book he is currently selling. And he was doing this to try to help Shapiro, as bringing this talking point out in the open would allow Shapiro to explain himself on his own terms without the Left twisting his words to make him look bad. Instead of doing that Shapiro doubled down on his combative nature, ironically doing everything he is constantly accusing the Left of. Andrew Neil's final sarcastic quip of, "Thank you, Mr. Ben Shapiro for showing us that anger is not a part of American political discourse," wasn't just about how Shapiro got angry, it was about how Neil was trying to give Shapiro the chance to prove to the audience that his politics was not based on anger despite some of his previous comments, and Shapiro refused to take up the opportunity and instead spent over half the interview yelling at Neil. Shapiro could have avoided all of this by just being more honest about the fact that he's a controversial, intentionally divisive conservative firebrand and wrote a book about that instead of trying to pretend that he's this unbiased purveyor of facts and logic who treats both sides equally. I've seen Shapiro apologize for calling Neil a leftist, but I haven't seen him show any apology or sincere reflection or even acknowledgement on how he was called out for how disingenuous his book was, and how hypocritical it is for him to accuse the Left of being overly sensitive, and how he continues to accuse the left of this, given his performance here, which is the real issue. Also all of the things Neil "dug up" can be found on Shapiro's Wikipedia page. Neil did not have to dig deep to find these contradictions.

Hamsterking101 it speaks to Your own ignorance to assume that I’m Liberal, no wonder you side with Ben in this video. I happen to agree with Ben’s perspective in many issues including His Pro Life stance but EVEN BEN HIMSELF ADMITTED that he did not conduct his due diligence in this matter. Unfortunately, a highly polarising approach in journalism has become a hallmark of US reporting and that is simply untrue in many other news outlets across the globe. When this notoriously right wing conservative reporter is inquiring an OPPOSING VIEW to Ben’s narrative, he allows Ben to showcase his beliefs as juxtaposed against contradiction, which is excellent journalism. Instead of calmly explaining his views and addressing reasonable opposition he chose to be emotional and take the questions as a personal attack. Those so-called ‘facts’ were merely out-of-context quotes trying to be used to discredit Shapiro before he could even speak. Shapiro was annoyed that he had to deal with yet another leftist, lying, hack in the establishment media who was more interested in trying to attack and malign him personally, rather than hear the things that he had to say. An honest media in a free society provides all sides of an argument and allows the viewer to discern for themselves what the truth is. You clearly do not have a clear basis to how an argument is structured: Andrew consistently attempted to make cornering point to jab at Shapiro, to which Shapiro answered. However in a part i didn't even have to search for I clicked randomly, I found at 5:30 where Ben answered then he failed to reflect his own view. This happened repeatedly with jabs and attempts at corning that failed and Ben had none of it. B Bailey the bbc did not “win” here. The basis for any argument that Shapiro was schooled/owned/etc. here is that the interviewer wouldn’t answer any of Ben’s questions, defaulted to the predictable mantle of “I’m the interviewer, you’re the guest; I ask the questions, you answer them,” allowing for the “plausible deniability” that since the interviewer wouldn’t attest to any bias, that perhaps he isn’t biased and is just doing his job, and that the interviewer got under Ben’s skin. “I’m the interviewer, you’re the guest” is fine when it’s a straightforward interview, not when it’s one that includes politically biased questions, such as “the dark ages of the republican platform” or the “popularity of a $15/hr minimum wage” or “the left are the only ones with new ideas” or plenty of other biased, false premises. Then it becomes a political debate. But the interviewer wanted to present these biases AND have Shapiro follow the protocols of a straightforward interview. That’s not an argument, it doesn’t work that way, and that’s why Shapiro was pissed off
